I've now updated to FDM 3.9.2 build 1303 with Plugin 1.5.7.9, now working in Pale Moon, thanks.

With the advent of Fx 20 and soon Pale Moon 20, the FDM Plugin 1.5.7.6 is no longer compatible. Is there any chance of an update for these versions?

There is nothing wrong with the GUI the way it is, I actually believe that all resources should be directed towards functionality and more importantly compatibilty, which is the biggest single issue plaguing FDM currently.

You can use FDM or Flashgot for Firefox with 32-bit Mozilla-based browsers, but Flashgot for Firefox is also 32-bit only.

Also, begs the question, should users be so reliant on third party helper add-ons for FDM to function properly?

The only way you can do that currently is to manually edit the 'install.rdf' file by increasing the maxVersion number to match the browsers version number.
