Using Free Download Manager with KAV/KIS/etc may result in different problems both in FDM itself and in your entire system. You should add Free Download Manager (fdm.exe) to the trusted zone of KAV/KIS/etc to avoid the problems. Look at this image to learn how to add FDM to trusted zone in KAV 2009...

I was trying to download thge latest version of FDM.
Which seemed to be 2.5,758, yet when I click on the DOWNLOAD button, fdminst3.exe gets downloaded.

I am not interested in beta versions.
How do I get the latest released version?

I believe I figured out what's going on. When the download manager was running, it opened 4-6 byte streams to download the file.
