FDM 5.1
Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
sorry to say, but today I had to uninstall FDM v5.1.13 completely and return back to FDM 3.7.1627, because FDM 5.1 was causing that the transfer speed of my local network be really slow, so I've uninstalled FDM 5.1 and now the transfer speed of my local network is working at full speed again.

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
Could you kindly clarify the way you compared these two programs?mariellesoares wrote:I`m using FDM Mac Version 5.1.13.4039 and I`m observing how slow FDM is downloading. So I used Xtreme Download Manager 4.7 (best version for me) side-by-side also just to see the behavior and it`s very, very quick as always.
Please, may you compare this? Thanks.
FDM 5.1 downloads files as fast as FDM 3, IDM and other popular download managers. XDM downloads files sometimes even slower.
I suppose at first you launched your download manager, then FDM. Your download manager got the connections earlier, so FDM got the rest of the internet connection speed.
Please try downloading the same file using your download manager and FDM separately: complete the download with your download manager first, then download the same file with FDM. It's important to choose one file for both managers to pass an unbiased verdict.
Could you please provide sample URLs of files that you used to compare the programs?

Dear Melerix!
Was it FDM that caused the downloading problems in your local network or you had some problems with downloading from your local network using FDM? Could you please describe the problems in more details?
Regards,
Clive

no troubles with downloads, only with the transfer speed in my local network from PC to PC.
for example my local network is 100mbps so the transfer speed from PC to PC is around 10MB/s but... when FDM 5.1 is installed, the transfer speed decrease to around 2.5MB/s.

Could you also specify:
1) Do you switch on the integration with EDGE?
2) Which programs do you use to transfer files from PC to PC?
All Best,
Clive

1 - yes, I've enabled Edge integration.
2 - directly from folder to folder in local network or sometimes using FreeFileSync app.

conext menu?
I'm using the latest beta, and firefox and firefox 43 - the context menu no longer shows a 'download all with free..' - is there a way to enable it? It has the "download with Free Download Manger" which works fine, but not the other entries the older version of FDM had...
Am I missing an obvious setting somewhere?

name change
and the other annoying thing I find abot version 5 is that the download has .fdmdownload at the end of it - which means that file associations don't work until it has finished... ie you can click on a .mkv download and it will start to play even if it has only downloaded 5% of it...
As a part fix I've associated .fdmdownload with VLC (so it at least works with video) but there should be an option somewhere to turn that behavior off...

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
without .fdmdownload extension following problems can happen
-explorer can crash loading incomplete media file
-antivirus often mark incomplete executable files (.exe, .msi etc.) and .dll files as virus and quarantine them

At the moment, this option is not present. In the nearest plans is adding of batch downloads, then the "download all with free" option may appear.

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
Thanks for the effort on releasing the new version 5 however after using it for a couple of weeks I decided that I like 3.9 better.
Old 3.9 has better functionality and the interface is like a file manager which is just what your are doing when organizing your downloads.
I think I'll stick to 3.9.
Regards.

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
i have to uninstall FDM v5 due to lack of features. wish u can integrate FDM v3 features (like: editing url of downloading file, site explorer, etc) on the new one.
Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
Please create a signed version of 3.x so it can be used again with newer versions of Firefox.... currently 5.x is too incomplete.
