I'm afraid there are more problems with extension support in latest Firefox 23 builds so you should report your observations to Mozilla developers also. There are at least two possible problems:
- There is something broken with general extension support in Firefox 23. This build can't run any extension from "Mozilla Firefox\extensions" directory. It seems to see some of extensions in user profile and only them.
- There is something changed in Firefox internal download manager that blockes other download managers/helpers. Have you tested FlashGot extension for Firefox?

Sorry for the inconvenience, FDM developers/moderators just have no time to play with all poorly described or unconfirmed reports. You haven't clearly mentioned that you tested solutions described in FAQ and noone confirmed your problem.

Wow! Finally, some answers. Thank you for the reply. Well, at least I got a peace of mind regarding the problem.
Yeah, I thought the problem was with the new Firefox nightly. Oh, well... I'll just have to downgrade to Firefox Aurora or try out the Comodo IceDragon I've been seeing.

Keep up the good work, guys!!!

Plugin doesn't work with Pale Moon

Postby Biep » Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:57 pm

Hi,

The plugin works fine with Firefox, and installs fine with Pale Moon, but there it doesn't do anything (besides adding to the context menu - but clicking those options is a no-op).

Does anyone recognise this? Know a solution?

Pale Moon 20.0.1 x64 on Windows 7 x64.

FDM plugin is 32-bit app and it works only with 32-bit browsers.

"Download by FDM" not working

Postby Milan » Thu Apr 25, 2013 11:03 am

When I ring click on link and select any of 4 "Download by FDM" options, nothing happens.
I have to copy link and start manually.
I'm using Waterfox 18, that is 64bit version of Firefox.

Support for extensions in "%Programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox\extensions" is now officially removed from Firefox 21 final build.
Changes in plugin support in Firefox 23 are confirmed by other add-on developers, see:

I upgraded to Firefox22.0 Beta1 (via Filehippo file) from Firefox 21 Release (I was on Beta channel but Firefox auto updates updated to 21 release when it became available) and FDM stopped working with Firefox in all FDM aspects (still works with IE10). I looked at the FDM install.rdf and adjusted to "max" 22.* but it made NO difference and it still does not work at all with Firefox 22.0 Beta 1.

I downloaded the Firefox 21 Release from Filehippo and installed it OVER FF22.0 Beta1 (rather than un-installing first) as I did not wish to lose settings etc. FDM immediately started working as normal.

I am confused by the Firefox reporting in this topic. I have been running with the Beta channel for a long period of time. FDM has always worked with all Beta and final releases for many versions until FF22.0 Beta, 1 so I feel the reports that it will not work from FF 21 final and from FF23 are not up to date (certainly not on my experiences). Nothing has changed on my very stable Win 7 x64 PC to affect FDM

So in summary on my PC
FF 21 release works as normal and as expected
FF 22.0 Beta1 does not work at all (even when "max" is adjusted up in install.rdf.

P.S. I'm not convinced FF22.0 Beta1 is not without download issues (i.e. when I tried a download (not via FDM as that was not recognized) I got the normal FF download window BUT it did not have focus and "save file" button and window header were greyed out (save file button only became active when I selected the download window (never normally needed and should not be needed)

Hope these observations help.
Kind Regards, Dave

To dko: please would you specify a link to the web page where you download the Firefox 22 version from?

Our programmers are diligently working to rectify all the issues as soon as possible.

It seems that Firefox developers have started to introduce changes in plugin API in all currently developed Firefox versions.
You can use ftp.mozilla.org site, if you want to be sure that you haven't downloaded any malware.

Thank you for your info Usher.
To be honest I have used Filehippo for several years and it has a WOT trust rating of Excellent. I have never downloaded anything my security software has challenged.
Having said that I like to check and investigate so I took your advice and went to the ftp.mozilla.org site where I proceeded to download the Win32 ENGB version via download link
"ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/../pub/firefox/releases/22.0b1/win32/en-GB/Firefox Setup 22.0b1.exe"
(I did note the file size was slightly different from the Filehippo offering But I suspect that was the en-US version they have).

I installed the downloaded file and got identical results as I did with the Filehippo version I first installed.
Namely:
a) as before, FDM need install.rdf adjusted to max 22.* to be accepted,
b) as before, FDM was not recognized at all when downloads attempted,
c) as before, the standard FF download pop-up window was greyed out as was the "save file" button and did not have the active focus.
d) as before (but not mentioned in my first poston this subject), when in YouTube the "Download with FDM" button did not appear on any video (it was set up correctly in FDM settings).

MY Subsequent Actions:
AS before I replaced FF22.0b1 being reinstalling the FF21 Release OVER the FF 22.0b1 version and FMD worked immediately in all aspects I use and those mentioned above.

I like to install FF beta versions BUT I will NOT sacrifice my favourite and much used add-on/application FDM to do so.

Once again, I hope this info helps
Kind Regards
Dave

Dear all!

We are sorry to inform you that due to some changes in the Firefox structure made by its developers, our Free Download Manager plugin is not supported by the recently released FF 22 and 23. Our programmers try their best to resolve this problem as soon as possible. As for now, please use the latest Firefox release 21 until these issues are rectified.

1. Read FDM FAQ carefully and follow suggestions described there.
2. Read this topic carefully before posting again.
3. Send complaints to Firefox developers about lost addons.
