Downloads over 5 MB suddenly stop!

Postby Angeliq » Sun Sep 30, 2007 2:06 pm

Ok I\'m having this problem for a few days now since I downloaded FDM.I\'m not sure weather FDM is causing it or something else but it\'s getting quite annoying.Namely,I start a download and it downloads normally up to some 97%-99% and then the download speed goes down to zero and FDM doesn\'t download the file completely.
This happened with a 76 MB download,with a 12 MB download and with a 7 MB download,smaller downloads didn\'t show this behavior.
Also,my firefox\'s default downloader won\'t work (the download writes *starting* but never starts).Web sites forums and everything else works fine,I can\'t make out what this means...

Here is a screen shot - the downloads always stops before downloading this particular part...is this a bad HD sector or something?
Does FDM temp cache downloads on C:\\ by default?

I left one download of about 170 MB all night,it should've finished in max 2 hours but it didn't budge for 6 hours after it reached 98%

I've had problems like this with various download managers.

One workaround I hve used is to restrict te download to 1 stream.

In one case, the server was timing out the 1st session, so once that session went away, the session was logged out and the session cookie could not be used by the other streams.

Restricting to 1 session overcame this.

What type of connection do you use (dial-up mode, DSL modem, etc...) ?

Yup you are correct some download site restrict thier user to 1 session.

To prevent this errors dont use too many section(s) for your each download because whenevr FDM split your file into 10 parts (for example) when one of this section got close by the website then you will never finish downloading your file.

You have to know each website connection's limit

The case I referenced was not directly limiting to 1 session, but the site timed out the 1st session and logged out the session cookie, so the other sessions could not continue. In effect, limiting to a single session.
