Download destination
I would like to change it, but have found no way to do that. If there is a way, please tell me how.

In FDM 5, you can change the folder when you add a download.

We would like to be able to assign a default download location of our choice (as was the case earlier). Since one of the recent builds every download defaults to the "c:users/download folder. There's also an option missing to choose a different location (chosen earlier) via the pull-down menu. It's very cumbersome/inefficient to have to manually select the desired path every time we download something, which is quite often.
Hope you would look into it. I'm currently on the latest version 5.1.34.6885, Windows 10.

Uh, I'm seeing it in the DL dialog box that pops up when downloading a file.
See https://photos.app.goo.gl/PdBIojurxfShVll63
In that picture, 1 is the drop down arrow, currently showing me the 2 folders I have used to download items. 2 is the ... button that allows me to pick any folder from a standard Windows file / folder selection dialog.
Check the following: Did you by chance enable the setting Start downloading without confirmation? I believe that when that option is enabled it skips the dialog box in my screenshot....

Re: Download destination
@johnlgalt
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, the pull-down menu shows only the default path in my case, irrespective of whether I have the history enabled/disabled in the settings. If I remember right, I've always had the download history disabled from day one without any trouble with the path/folder. Not sure what the issue now is.
As for "Start downloading without confirmation" , it's disabled by default in the settings. It's only after an update to the latest build that I've been having this issue. In fact I can't even remember seeing the default download folder since setting a different path the first time I installed FDM 5.

Weird. How did you perform the update, internally through FDM itself by checking for updates, or externally, by downloading it and installing it?
Reason I ask is that I made the screenshots using build v5.1.34 [build 6876, Dec 25, 2017] STABLE and then upgraded using the FDM check for Updates function and verified that my screenshot and my existing profile were showing the same thing - and they are,
I'll now try adding a new folder to download to, and see if it sticks in the dropdown - if not, then it is, indeed, a new bug....

I upgraded to this particularl (latest) version via the update checker. I do perform an upgrade by externally downloading from time to time though.
Hope this is one of those passing bugs. May be the next update should fix it, fingers crossed.

You could try to install the previous version and see if it reverts. Getting a hold of it might be an issue, but I think FileHippo keeps multiple versions around for download of most files.
About to test on my side and see if it is manifesting here as well.

Re: Download destination
Just tested - I went to download the nVidia GeForce Experience application, used the ... to select a different folder, created a new subfolder called test in my downloads directory, and then downloaded the file there.
I then went to grab the latest GeForce drivers, and it was using the folder I had just created. I hit the drop down and the two previous folders that were there in my screenshot, downloads and downloads\gateway, were there along with the currently selected folder of downloads\test.
So, it is working fine here.

Re: Download destination
Will see if going back to the previous version works. If not I'll probably do a complete reinstall.
Edit: I feel a little stupid/embarrassed now that I've figured out what was wrong. In trying to pinpoint the issue since the upgrade I inadvertently set both the options clear history older than and Maximum number of history records in the History settings to 1 because it's been my practice since FDM 3 days to have the history disabled straight away upon installation. I mistook it be a history of downloaded files stored either in the logs or in the UI (like with FDM 3).
Now that I've re-enabled history leaving the two options unchecked every thing's back in order. But that still leaves an unanswered question i.e. if the need for History to be enabled is something that's required going forward?
Anyway, apologies for taking up your time @johnlgalt
