Dear User!

What is your OS?
1) My memory consumption is always about the same if FDM stands by.
2) At the moment, if a download is moved, it's paused automatically.
3) Thank you for the suggestion.
4) FDM, in the case of a number of any errors during the download, makes 5 reconnects. Since downloading at this time is considered active, others will not start.
5) "On type" and "on URL" are two different options, and when they are connected together, priority may be given differently. We recommend using either one or two.
6) We added the "delete/add trackers" to the to-do list.

Regards,
Clive

Hello. I have a request. Can you remove splash screen of FDM when program starts or add this feature to settings?

Windows 7 SP 1 (March Update)

SItes like rapidgator, don't allow pausing a download. If paused, you can not resume the download from that point. Instead, the download starts from 0%. For this kind of sites, by mistake or someone who isn't aware of that might move the files while it is being downloaded. Hence, the whole thing might need to be downloaded again, from the start.

So, I was thinking it would be wiser if the moving process would be carried out after the download has been completed. Even though the move command is set by the user during the time it was being downloaded. Or, if you guys can come up with a new method where the moving is done, without pausing or causing any interruption to the connection from the servers.

Dear Renz1er!

From Rapidgator, FDM does not catch, this website is included in the list of exceptions.
Thank you, we will consider this issue.

Re: FDM 5.1 - (x).testfile

Postby PTuT » Tue Jul 18, 2017 5:17 am

For every downloaded file, the program also creates (x).testfile files. So I may have several instances of (1).tetfile, (2).testfile, etc. for one downloaded file. Sometimes it's just one instance. I have to manually delete these files. Does somebody know why?
I use Win10 x64 (latest) and Free Download Manager 5.1.31.6531 (but is happening for some time now).

Latest build v5.1.6509 you need to watch this video and see first hand via video screencap why after half a DAY I have TENS OF GIGABYTES of SSD write IO......

I could not figure out why multiple monitors were confirming those numbers coming from the fdm process....and then I found that simply having the app open as shown in this video was causing the app for some reason to repeatedly write to the sqlite journal despite sitting IDLE and not even downloading anything!

I'm a very long time user from WAY back in the early pre v3 days so I really hope you guys can begin making better progress on this rewrite to get v5 back to where v3 was years ago but in the meantime, I can't have my SSDs taking up to hundreds of GB of unnecessary NAND writes just for having this app window open like this.

What's funny is I feel like I'm becoming the SSD killer hunter because this is now like the third major app I've found recently to have coding issues causing behind the scenes MASSIVE abuse of underlying SSDs......and I've already got not one but TWO failed SSDs now to show for it so the 100+ GB of NAND writes per day I can confirm actually DOES kill even these newer SSDs in under a year!

Dear User!

Do you mean * .fdmdownload files? If it's * .testfile, please send us a screenshot of the files and kindly indicate in what folder they are created. Please send us one of the files via http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/support.htm

Hello!

I'm a big fan of the app, but I do have just one change that I'd like to request...

While downloading vids from this one site with the chrome extension, on a page with two vid links, fdm showed the create subfolder option with the site's name suggested as the folder name. So i figured yeah this makes sense. I set this subfolder as the destination for my next downloads from this site. I happened upon another page with two links and the create subfolder option reappeared. Only this is apparently not an option. I can't download any of the links, despite only choosing to only download one in both instances, without having to create another subfolder. Considering I was currently downloading to the first subfolder created, it makes no sense to keep creating subfolders in subfolders for no reason. To make creating a subfolder optional, would be welcome!

Also, I'd like to request some clarification on what the permissions of the chrome extension are used for.

-Read and change all data on the websites that you visit
-Read and change your browsing history
-Communicate with cooperating websites
-Manage your downloads (This one seems obvious)
-Communicate with cooperating native applications (Also seems obvious)

I couldn't seem to find a privacy policy or agreement on the site. Is user data collected and/or shared?

Thanks in advance!

hi, there is a bug with the download speed when you try to download software from Adobe, for example...

from here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/wi ... 701220093/

or when you try to download the new Adobe Flash Player from the following links:

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashpl ... player.exe
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashpl ... yer_ax.exe
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashpl ... _ppapi.exe
http://download.macromedia.com/get/flas ... player.exe

and this bug happens in Windows 7 with Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows 8.X & 10 with Windows Defender, and when the bug occurs, it causes the process MsMpEng.exe to use a lot of resources, specially HDD usage, and probably that is what is causing slow download speed.

so probably is a incompatibility between FDM and MSE/WD.

That would depend - because both M$E and WD are supposed to be running *all the time*, which means that you should be having issues with *any* file that you download, for it to be indicative of an issue between FDM and M$E/WD.

I would argue that in fact it is an issue between M$E / WD and adobe.com / adobe executables. A good test would be to monitor both of these to eliminate variables:

1) download the same files without FDM and see if you still get the high spike in CPU utilization from the M$E / WD executables.

2) find an open FTP site (or make one of your own) and download the same exact file (obviously you'll need to u0pload them to the site first) and then see if the same thing happens, both with / without FDM.

Dear User!

Why do you think that the consumption of resources of MsMpEng.exe is caused by FDM?

Clive
