Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
That was good research, and thanks for the caveat about possible side effects. I have since gotten the latest FF update to 26.0 and find that I have been able to download the videos from publicdomain.org that had posed various problems with non flash formats. I was successful in downloading, with fdm, avi and mpeg formats and the outcome was not a new tab with ff plug-in attempting to play the video rather than just download the single format type. I had worked around by downloading a torrent and then deleting everything i didnt want. I have only used this one site, there is another one which gave different problems for public domain free videos free-classic-movies.com ,i believe. it had been forcing me to use the ff downloader or some workaround to get only one of the 2 formats offered, always the one i wanted was the one i had to use ff downloader. I do not use it too often and forget the workaround i found but may be trying it soon .hopefully ,it will be ok now

I don't know what Firefox version you use, so this could work or break all. Follow reporting rules, please.Guest wrote:I don't know why this code was changed originally, so this could break something else.

Guest wrote:In newer plugins the code to catch download links was changed. I manually patched my FF plugin back to the old code and I now can download all filetypes with FDM again.
The patch is pretty simple:
1. Go to your FDM install directory.
2. Then go to the "Firefox\extension\chrome\content\" subdirectory.
3. Open the file "fdm_ffext.js" with notepad.
4. Replace the existing near line 200Code: Select all
function freeDldMgr_dllink ()
{
if (document.popupNode instanceof HTMLAnchorElement)
document.popupNode.click();
else
freeDldMgr_dlURL (freeDldMgr_getURL (document.popupNode));
}
withCode: Select all
function freeDldMgr_dllink ()
{
freeDldMgr_dlURL (freeDldMgr_getURL (document.popupNode));
}
I don't know why this code was changed originally, so this could break something else.
Registered just to say "You sir are a genius". Right-click context menu has been broken for ages for me and this little code tweak fixed it. Am currently using ff26.0
Although the file location differed for me using Win7x64. I had to edit the "fdm_ffext.js" located at
"C:\ProgramData\Free Download Manager\Firefox\Extensions\1.6.0\chrome\content\fdm_ffext.js"
Not really clear on what a HTMLAnchorElement is but maybe the code at that point is supposed to reference HTMLAnchorElement.download, although that API is listed as experimental.
Either way thanks a lot.

Free Download Manager plugin cannot download flash!
Firefox version 26.0
I installed the latest FDM ver. 3.9.3 lite, and plugin 1.6.0. Normally, when playing a video in youtube, there will be a small icon at the corner but it no longer appears.
I tried copy and paste into flash video download in FDM but it says there were "no flash found on this page". But I had download flash with the previous version of firefox. What is preventing it from downloading the flash file?

Are you sure youtube is still using flash as opposed to HTML5?

Yes YouTube is in flash when I checked. I used flash and video plugin for Firefox 26.0, it captured the flash video but fdm always prompt no flash found on YouTube or any other flash site. Tried to change the above script for detection but still cannot capture flash.
Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
I have tried over the past few weeks pretty much all the top downloaders including orbit/download them all/flashget but none come close to the greatness of FDM, so thanks for the brilliant software.
Now onto why I hate it
Its perfect but I have noticed if I have been using FDM for a few hours it gets 'groggy' as in it forgets to download and it seems to reduce to 9 bytes only?
Seems to happen more when after 4-6+ hrs of continous FMD usage. Attempted to stop and then restart thinking it would get full speed again but no joy. Even cancelling the file and reloading or trying a different mirror or new file to download it still gets 9 bytes.....
Real mysterious bug indeed, I also tried to close the entire program and relaunch it but same issue.
Only fix was to restart entire pc and then it kicks in to full speed when downloading.
I found if I use firefox free download manager it can hit that same file to full speeds so the issue is FDM, must be a nasty bug.
I will try and use the FDM 3.8 build and see if its any better for now. Orbit its closest match has poor firefox integration so is unusable.

Try clearing your history. It's been noticed and documented in the past that when the history gets really large, FDM starts acting goofy.
Give it a try and see i it starts acting normally again *without* restarting your browser / rebooting.

It seems like your Internet provider uses some limits for downloading per IP address. After restart your PC gets a new IP and you can download again.Guest wrote:Its perfect but I have noticed if I have been using FDM for a few hours it gets 'groggy' as in it forgets to download and it seems to reduce to 9 bytes only?

Browsers use only one connection per download, and FDM may use many connections for every download. You can set stronger limits in FDM for maximum number of connections (global and per server) and see if it helps.Guest wrote:I found if I use firefox free download manager it can hit that same file to full speeds so the issue is FDM, must be a nasty bug.

Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
thx for the advice will give it a shot !
Regarding history, I have set FDM to not save history or logs... 60gig+ free on the hdd also
My ISP does not throttle or limit me yet + it would not discount that I can close a groggy FDM and load firefox inbuilt downloader which goes at full speed bandwidth straight away on the same file
I will try however setting max connections to 10 rather then 1, see if this helps the groggyness thanks
will pop back and let you guys know if it helped.

Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
It won't be helpful for debugging purposes. The best way to test is to start with limit for max connections set to 1 and maximum number of sections also set to 1 ("Advanced" button in "New download" options). If you have no problems with such strict browser emulating you can increase number of connections, keeping only 1 section per download.Spiral wrote:I will try however setting max connections to 10 rather then 1.
Don't forget it may be also some problem with your network card, for example some USB connected WiFi cards (USB dongles) may overheat and even lose connection.

thx for the suggestion, will play around with those settings and see how it goes. Guess if the connection does stop I can play with those settings to find if it fixes it:)

I can't use FlashGot with FDM? Are you serious?
Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
Yes, you can (with some additional conditions). No, you aren't. Read more carefully, please.Guest wrote:I can't use FlashGot with FDM? Are you serious?
You cannot use both Flashgot and FDM add-ons simultaneously, at a time. You can install more than one download helper or download manager, but ONLY ONE of them MAY BE ACTIVE in your browser.

I've noticed that after I installed FDM 3.9.3 but i need both Flashgot (installed an active in firefox) AND FDM because FDM does not recognize anything I want to download and for the other things i need to use Flashgot.
With 3.9.2 it was possible to download something (by clicking the download link or whatever) and FDM poped up as first and if I clicked "cancel" in FDM then the standard firefox download dialog (or "open with" dialog) poped up and I was able to choose another downloader because of the flashgot plugin.
Now that is not possible anymore...unfortunately.
