Auto restart failed downloads

Postby Rugalb2k » Fri Dec 13, 2019 7:06 pm

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to set FDM to auto restart failed downloads? Some files fail to download but manually restarting them solves the issue.

Many thanks

Same for me. An option to set how many tries to resume would be helpful.

Can you give more information? I don't see the option to turn this on, and it definitely doesn't automatically restart failed downloads by default for me. I recently changed internet providers to a much faster option, but I guess it's less stable because I get failed downloads every 10-15 minutes. I can manually restart them using FDM (latest version) but would absolutely love it if I didn't have to babysit my downloads. Is there something I'm missing here?

Anyone? I went and tried a different download manager just now and downloaded a 2 GB file without any issues. I then immediately went and downloaded the same file using FDM and it stopped after less than 10 minutes. I would prefer to keep using FDM, but unless I figure this out...

Problem here is those are static url and once you disconnect they are gone and you must restart from 0 bytes. So unless the site list on FDM "Resume again" notations you can't just restart if you stop the download. And since we have no links to the file in questions no one can say for certain what download options it gives or stop once you stop downloading it.

It just says connection closed. But hitting the play button will resume the download where it left off, even hours or days later. It would just be nice if the software automatically resumed when it failed.

What are you talking about? No one in this thread is talking about static urls. I'm talking about urls that persist and are able to be resumed just fine, albeit manually by clicking the button. All I'm saying is it would be great if I didn't have to click that button every 10-15 minutes.

Well, it should automatically resume such downloads.
Make sure you have this option enabled:

I never had to click every 10-15 min to resume a link when I left FDM downloading links I used. Unless your system is going to sleep because it detects inactivity from the O/S side and goes into power save mode. Clicking every minutes sounds like a system default on their side to detect inactivity other then FDM and it would disconnect the connection is what it looks like.

Why do you even bother replying to someone if you clearly don't read their question? Getting bad help is more frustrating than getting no help at all. I already said I was able to download the file using a different download manager, so clearly the "solution" you suggest isn't what's going on here. I get that you're trying to be helpful, but really REALLY, you're not. Also, telling someone that you're not having the same problem that they are is beyond useless and completely obnoxious. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

Would you be so kind and follow the reporting rules, please? They are linked in my signature.

We don't have any magic crystal ball here so we can only guess what is really going on. If you don't want to provide needed details, we can't provide detailed help. Help us to help you. Complaining is NOT helpful.

Auto restart (with resuming) in general is expected to work only for persistent links. Many file hosting services provide such links only for logged-in premium (payable) account users. It's been explained in many topics here, have you read any of them and followed any suggestion? You can start with searching for my messages using the following keywords: permanent link*, persistent link*, temporary link*, resum*, restart*, file hosting, change* url*.
