cookedrice wrote:After using this FDM 5 Preview on my PC overall it runs smooth and easy to use but there are several point that maybe need to be improve better in the next update :
- when I generating download link that would be appear loading screen gear rotating covering all FDM window and often too long to process I cant cancel or back to the main window.
- after a couple week after booting the FDM appears error dialog box that said "the download database may corupt" or something cannot load the download history of mine.
would like future update of FDM with much improvised feature and performance
Hello, cookedrice!
1) You can press Escape(Esc) to cancel the download & return to the main window.
2) You would really help us if you by any chance remember these things:
a) Do you have an approximate number of downloads you had?
b) For how long (approximamtely) was FDM running?
c) Do you still have the .sav files? Can you check out their sizes please?
Additionally, if you are willing to help us in that fashion, it would be helpful if you could send us these .sav files so that we could get to the bottom of this problem. (email: support (at) freedownloadmanager.org)
Thank you for your feedback!
Re: FDM 5 Preview
FMD 5 build 4520 Win XP SP3 FF 37.0.1.
I've found FDM very robust and reliable under heavy use, showing a moderate use of memory and CPU.
I miss a feature: Deleting Tags. I've created a couple to follow some issues (commented below) and now that they are useless I don't know how to delete them.
Issue 1: I know this version is a preview, but you should provide a user manual. Some of the features are not obvious. Reading this thread provided a lot of info.
Issue 2: The maximum number of connections is causing some problems when downloading concurrently a lot of torrents (the list being about a page long). I had to increase them from 150 to 300 because FDM stopped downloading anything. Not sure about the reason, because I had downloaded longer lists before the problems begun. Restarting FDM, the computer or the router caused no effect.
Issue 3: Not sure if I must blame it to FDM. After several hours of heavily using FDM, my router's performance goes to a crawling for anything not being FDM (at the time, consuming very little bandwidth): my PC browser, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry and Android get disconnected from the Internet, but keep connected to my WiFi. A soft reset sent to the router is enough to restart normal operation.

Hello, jpriet0!
Deleting Tags
To delete a tag altogether: http://i.imgur.com/5OCGj0Z.png
To delete a tag from a single download: http://i.imgur.com/XJivKYy.png
Issue 1: Of course, we are planning to release a manual later on. Can you give us a few examples of what you found to be not obvious, please?
Issue 2:
a) Can you please try pausing all torrents except for one to see if it makes a difference?
b) Can you please try downloading the same torrents with uTorrent to see if something changes?
Issue 3:
This one is a little more tricky. It might indicate a problem with your router, for example; one thing that might help is trying not to have as many torrents running at the same time. Let us know if there will be any new related problems.
Re: FDM 5 Preview
Hi,
I'd like to report some findings and impressions with this preview build (build 4520):
Thanks for your time.
I'd like to report some findings and impressions with this preview build (build 4520):
- When clicking a combobox in the Settings page in an attempt to select an option, using the mouse wheel to scroll would scroll the underlying page, instead of the list (whether or not the list presents a scroll bar and regardless of whether the cursor is over the list). In other words, comboboxes don't seem to receive focus.
- (I'm only going to comment about Firefox in this point as I haven't tested the behaviour in other browsers) If there's an error during interception of a download (FMD yielded an error when trying to download a torrent file as a result of an interception), Firefox would hang, instead of safely being passed back control of the download. In here, I'd actually like to propose a different approach for interception of downloads: I think it would be more productive to use to use the same approach as the FlashGot add-on, wherein when Firefox asks what you want to do with the file (download it or open with an app) you're presented with the additional (3rd) option to download with a specific download manager. This has the advantage of being able to use the download rules defined by file type in the Applications page of Firefox's settings (with FMD 3.x, I've been using this in order to ensure torrent files are always opened with FMD, and that files of other types such as video are downloaded with FDM).
- I think tooltips would likely be more helpful than a manual, unless it wasn't possible to explain a setting well enough without a wall of text. Nevertheless, all settings should provide an explanation of what they do, and what different values for those fields do (e.g.: what happens when you disable "use HTTP 1.1", what silent monitoring means, or an addition to the trash bin's existing tooltip description to highlight that holding down the Shift key deletes the downloaded file, too). I still support the addition of a manual for deeper explanations of various settings and features, though.
- I feel the "Move To" button should open an OpenFolderDialog window, instead of a FolderBrowserDialog window, because the former provides significantly more versatile exploration (including searches and favourite locations!), but that can be taken as more of a personal taste; I don't keep all my downloads in the same place, and the current setup limits browsing versatility to traversing trees.
Thanks for your time.
Re: FDM 5 Preview
In the download list, if I right click on a download item and choose "Remove from list" the file is also automatically removed from the disk. Should add confirmation to also remove the file or not. Thanks

I'm using MS Surface Pro 2, Windows 8.1, and FDM build 2627 btw. Hope you guys add those touch feature soon.
P/s: File manager needed too!
Hello, Draconica5!
The issue with scrolling on Surface tablets is fixed in the latest build (4726.1), however, there still are some usability issues we are still working on.

Hello, ItsADuck!
Thank you very much for your feedback, we are going to get on those issues.
The issue with comboboxes has been fixed in the latest build (4726.1).
Regarding the last suggestion (OpenFolderDialog): it was in our plans, so you'll definitely see it in future builds.

Kambaa wrote:Hello, I just want to say that this version is awesome. Thank you so much for your efforts. I have two suggestions. First is the virus check option. For me, a windows 8 user, Windows Defender is all i need for protection. The virus check predefined list is awesome, but theres no windows defender in the list. I googled it and found the executable and the arguments for the virus check, but if it's there, it'll be awesome. "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe -scan -scantype 3 -file %file%"
My second suggestion is the delete icon on the main window. Delete icon not only deletes downloaded file from the list, it also deletes from the disk!. While using the FDM5, one or two downloads i did was completely disappeared!!!. I think delete icon should just delete from the FDM Downloads list and if i want to delete a file from the disk, i should right click and delete it.
Finally, i congrats for the app and can't wait to see the actual release.
Have a nice day,
Just a computer user from Turkey,
Yusuf 'Kambaa' Gunduz.
Hello, Kambaa!
The Delete icon on the main window deletes file from the list in the latest build (4726.1). Beware that the actions for context menu items "Remove from list" and "Delete file(s)" are mixed up.
Refer to the first post on this thread for more details about the 4726.1 build.

Hello, FDM5User!
Thank you for the report.
Unfortunately, the issue is still there in the latest build, but you can use the other option, "Delete file(s)", to achieve the desired effect. The actions for these context menu items are mixed up.

I want to repeat my question:
Would it be possible to download from sites to which access is required login and password?

Hello!
The feature is most definitely on our TO-DO list.
Re: FDM 5 Preview
a suggestion: add multiple URLs at the same time would be convenient.

Re: FDM 5 Preview
I wish It has "Shutdown computer when done" feature like older version
Re: FDM 5 Preview
That's what I'm looking for long time... a fast download manager, a YouTube downloader and torrent Clint all together. Perfect software with easy GUI interface. And most importantly, it's FREE. Great job done by developer, thanX !!!
