Opera 7.51 crashes

Postby Red M&M » Mon Jul 12, 2004 12:36 pm

Hi everybody,

I'm using Opera 7.51 and Free Download Manager. I really like the FDM, but I have a problem with the browser compatibility. First, the integration in Opera is not quite succesful, I have to add the file-extensions manually to Opera's Standard File Types Dialog (putting in the MIME type and everything). FDM then catches the downloads, but as soon as it got the file, Opera crashes with an unhandled exception error at address "xyz". Is there anybody out there having the same trouble or maybe someone who can help me with that? I really like FDM and want to kep using it but can't if it crashes my Opera. (I really don't wanna change to MS IE!!)

Hi!

I have Opera 7.52 and FDM doesn't catch download clicks at all.
All settings in Opera and FDM seem to be OK

After all FDM is pretty good piece of software :)
I've just dumped adware-shit FlashGet :D

Hi,

here is what I did to make FDM catch downloads in Opera:

In Opera choose Tools -> Preferences -> File Types
Check if the fileextension zip, exe and so on are on the list. If not, you have to add them, but use the right MIME Type. That you can get by checking the PlugIn page of Opera (Tools -> Advanced -> Plug Ins, scroll to FDM Plugin entry).

Just copy the MIME type that corresponds to the file extension you want to add and then choose Use Plugin. You might not be able to choose a plugin, but after restarting Opera it should have chosen FDM Plugin (did so in mine).

But remember, my Opera now crashes each time FDM catches a download. Let us know if that happens with yours, too. I think that is a good hint for the developers to fix that bug.

Red M&M,

I use Opera 7.52 and Opera also crashes with me when FDM catches a download. :(

If the FDM developers need a log of the crash, I have one generated by Inspector IIXII 2.3, which is what the Opera developers use.

Hi Higgy,

I'm no developer but I sure think that might help to fix the bug. Just send it on to the developers, if you haven't already. :D

I hope they can fix that bug soon, I really want to work with FDM.......

I sent the crash log to the FDM developers. Hopefully, they'll be able to fix it soon.

In the meantime, you might want to try FreshDownload. It's freeware also and works just fine with Opera.

Well - after applying your suggestions my Opera crashes each time FDM catches a download click... but the file is already in FDM and it's ready to begin downloading ;)

Yes, same with my systems (XP and win98SE) - still crashing

There once was a bugfix section and I downloaded the bugfix but it didn't install correctly. Always brought up the message "Failed to install....." one day later the bugfix topic was gone so I thought the developers noticed the bug in the bugfix and would correct it. Haven't heard any news since, still waiting.....
