possible adware ?

Postby tarazane » Sat Oct 25, 2014 3:00 pm

hello ( sorry my english is poor)
when I run Emsisoft I have this result:

Value: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-800745836-2454738843-406212929-500\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN -> FREE DOWNLOAD MANAGER fichiers détectés : Application.AdStart (A)

Is it possible that FDM contains an adware ?

see : http://www.anvisoft. com/resources/how-to-remove-free-download-manager-pop-up-ads/

thanks

What version are you using and where did you download it from?

You should better read http://www.google.com/search?q=anvisoft+fake

Anvisoft is called rogueware, scareware, fake antispyware/antivirus etc. YOU SHOULD NOT TRUST IT IN ANY CASE!

FDM is NOT an adware, but some sites use their own adware wrapper for any soft you can download from there. Currently FDM installers are digitally signed by Softdeluxe Ltd. and countersigned by Symantec (Norton Antivirus developer).

You've possibly downloaded FDM from a website that had infused malware in it.

I suggest you uninstall FDM running an uninstaller program like Revo or Wise uninstaller, then clean temporary files with Ccleaner and download the program from its official website.

I'm afraid it won't help enough. You don't know what malware programs are installed and how they hide or protect themself from uninstalling. The best way is:
- use a clean system to download iso image of some antivirus rescue disk (like Windows Defender Offline or Kaspersky Rescue Disk);
- follow instructions from the download site how to manage with downloaded file (burn CD or create bootable pendrive);
- follow the instructions how to run antivirus rescue disk from the prepared CD/pendrive to scan infected system.

That is absolutely terrible. Waste of time.

He already has emisoft, which is one of the best antivirus out there, he just needs to delete any traces after he uninstalls that probably fake fdm.

1. Emsisoft is a company name, not an antivirus. There are more Emsisoft products available and I'm not going to guess which one has been mentioned.
2. Read once again:
tarazane wrote:when I run Emsisoft I have this result:
It seems that
- either tarazane ignored AV warning and allowed to run fake installer
- or he installed AV on an infected system after running fake installer
- or AV is not as good as you think.
That's why I recommend to use another AV and run it from a rescue disk.

Your well misinformed SlickR. If what you saying had any shred of truth to it others would've made it well known on here in FDM forum already.
