Re: FDM 6.5 ALPHA
Hello,
It is not recommended to write the file ".freedownloadmanager" to the root of the system partition.

Are you sure it's a file? There might be such a folder there.FDM6 user wrote:windows_10_enterprise_ltsc_2019Usher wrote:What operation system do you mean?FDM6 user wrote:Hello,

What FDM version/build do you use? Have you tried to put downloads outside of default location?

Is a folder (.freedownloadmanager)
Download the file, FDM6 automatically generated in the system partition root directory -------- .freedownloadmanager
--------- This is from Google Translate
Re: FDM 6.5 ALPHA
So it's all OK. It is allowed in all supported systems: Windows and Unix-like ones (MacOS, Linux and Android).FDM6 user wrote:Is a folder (.freedownloadmanager)Usher wrote:Are you sure it's a file? There might be such a folder there.
However, if you want to install any program on a server or in a corporate environment, you should always ask your administrator. User rights are more restricted by default in such cases.

FDM3, FDM5 will not generate such a file in the system partition root directory

1. IT IS NOT A FILE, it's a directory. Stop telling tales, please, re-read your own words.
2. FDM up to 3.x is for Windows only. What is more, some features are specific for Windows NT family or NTFS file system.
3. FDM 5.x is a first try to create multiplatform program. It is created using multiplatform programming framework which allows to reuse the same codebase in more operation systems. Did you use FDM 5.1 for MacOS? How do you know what files and directories are created by FDM in MacOS?
4. As I have already mentioned FDM 6 is a multiplatform program. Developers try to simplify codebase and reuse as many parts of source code as possible. It obviously means that some features typical for Unix-like operation systems may be used as a common codebase also for Windows code.

Directory, folder = category of file
Is your language thinking problem

Re: FDM 6.5 ALPHA
Your knowledge seems to be very poor.FDM6 ? wrote:Directory, folder = category of file

1. It's true that in many popular file systems a directory is a special type of file, but it's NOT TRUE for file systems in general.
2. In Windows, a folder is a virtual object in graphical desktop environment, which in most cases is mapped to a real directory in a file system. But it's NOT TRUE for folders in general. Some of them may contain files from many partitions or directories, for example Recycle Bin or Start Menu.
However, this forum is not a place for lectures on operation systems basics. If you want to learn more, you can start with articles in Wikipedia. Don't waste your time on trolling here, please. Spam and off topic messages may be deleted, spammers and trolls may be warned and banned.
