Re: FDM 5 Preview - missing download groups

wito wrote:First of all, a fundamental option is missing in Settings: set default download directory. Without this, there is no true "silent monitoring". I mean, one has to confirm every time a download starts, even if and when the app is meant to be hidden in the taskbar. Or am I missing something?
Default download folder is a part of "download groups" feature and this feature is not fully implemented in FDM 5. FDM 5 uses only predefined download groups and download folders (including default folder) - the same ones as in FDM 3 when running for the first time. There is no direct way to change default download folder, but FDM 5 seems to work like "Always use this group and remember the last output folder each time" setting in FDM 3. You can define some download folder manually (using macros like in FDM 3.x) and it will be used as a default folder for next downloads.

You should read older messages in this topic and "FDM 5 download directory" topic for more details.

Thank you for the feature suggestion. We're working on FDM localization.

Firefox extension is provided with FDM installer - just install it and turn on Firefox monitoring in FDM.

Should I see something in Firefox indicating it is installed? There is nothing in the add-ons and I'm not seeing anything in the context menu when I right-click on a link. I do have the monitoring turned on (I think it was on by default)

FDM 5 build 5140 comes with FDM extension for Firefox version 2.0.14, so it should be seen together with other Firefox extensions. It may be automatically updated to version 2.0.17 if all works OK.

What Firefox version do you use? Have you read the FDM FAQ about Firefox troubleshooting?

I am running FDM 5140 and Firefox 42.0. I do not see any FDM extension listed.
I couldn't find a specific FDM Faq about Firefox. I saw the general FDM Faq, but that seemed pretty old. And there is the thread "PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!", but that also seems to apply mostly to the old version.

Do you use another download helper extensions in Firefox? Disable them and close Firefox. Then turn off Firefox monitoring in FDM, reinstall FDM and turn on Firefox monitoring again. If you want to be more helpful, follow the reporting rules and provide more details, please.

Any problem with scrolling down and reading more than only the first message?

Both FDM 3.x and 5.x versions use the same Firefox extension for most of the time, so in most cases of Firefox troubleshooting the same suggestions apply to both FDM 3.x and 5.x.

Why don't FDM have frequent updates unlike IDM or eagleget down the lane?
The Preview is good though.

While FDM3 now works only in Maintenance Mode, FDM5 is going to be completely revamped. For now, we're actively working on the new FDM5.1 that will be released before the end of the year. Hopefully, you will enjoy it :)

FDM by default uses ports 1500-1600 for torrents. Port 4433 may be used by UPnP (supported by torrent lib used in FDM, if you have enabled UPnP in FDM settings), but it may be also used as an alternate port for https protocol - f.e. by tracker, vpn connection or some malware.

When are you going to allow me to tell it which port it can use?

You can change default bittorrent ports in FDM (also in FDM 5, IIRC), but you can't directly change ports specified by bittorrent extensions (you can only disable these extensions). If it's really needed and your admin allows you to do it, you can use more powerful tools for port redirection (router, firewall, proxy etc. - external or installed in your system).
