For the previous version that worked fine, for this beta version it doesn't.

Dear Ian!

Please provide us with:
1) Screenshots of all FDM outbound rule tabs? Have you created only one rule?
2) Sample URLs from where you download?
3) Are the downloads not added to FDM at all, or they are added, and then an error occurs? If an error occurs, please send us the text of the error and the logs of these downloads?
4) Do you use a proxy?

Clive

I understand, thanks Clive. :)

My primary interest is which options currently in 3.9.7 Options>Settings are planned to be available with FDM 5.1 Release. I ask because several times I have tried to switch over to FDM 5.1 Beta but have quickly gone back to 3.9.7 upon finding them not available in FDM 5.1 and User settings Options limited.

For example: as many have requested I want the small (flexible sizing) "Show download info while in progress" as an option instead of a larger main GUI (or alternative new download window). For me this alone is a deal breaker between the two versions.

I also like various other settings found in 3.9.7 Options >Settings. One I particularly like is in Options>New Downloads> Advanced> Miscellaneous> "Additional file extension for uncompleted download". The incomplete download extension I add for example IS incomplete. When I view my download folder I can see at a glance which downloads have completed vs those still downloading or failed very useful when downloading many small items as I can see which are ready for use and which are not just by viewing my Download folder on my Home PC)

To be honest Clive I like how I can download in 3.9.7 often without the need to open the main GUI unless i wish/need to or view more info) . The "Show download info while in progress" window is perfect for me monitoring download progress whilst my monitor screen is almost complete available for other things I am doing. I NEVER use the larger.

I never use the "Show Download in Progress Window as takes up more display space than ""Show download info while in progress" window,

I am totally wanting to move to FDM 5.1 from 3.9.7 IF it has many/all the User options that 3.9.7 has which made 3.x.x such a great successful over many years. Hence my interest in how many of or which User option settings are planned or being dropped in FDM 5.1.

For Info a reason I asked about availability for viewing the "To Do" List was to mainly to avoid taking up the Teams time (and posters) asking and answering specific question like "are you planning at the current time to include/introduce......" I had appreciated the To Do List would be fluid with inclusions and removals occurring frequently due to DDM 5.1 being in Beta stage.

Kind regards
ian

Hi Clive
I went to reply, looked at the settings, and thought - I'm an idiot... But I'll post here the problem so that others can watch out for it..

I had done the firewall to c:\Program Files (x86)\Free Download manger\ but of course the new 64 bit version had installed itself in in c:\Program Files\FreeDownloadManager.ORG - as it is now a 64bit program!

I hadn't released this and stupidly hadn't checked when it wasn't working (I didn't stop to think it might have gone somewhere else)... So maybe just a note to people that if you install the 5.* version it's going to a different place and you will need to update your firewall?

So yes, my stupidity...

It appears to be that if FDM 5.1 was started by the "Launch at startup (minimized)" feature you are not allowed to choose one of your previous download destination directories. However if you start it up using the start menu (after Quitting it if already started by "Launch at startup (minimized)") you are allowed to choose one of your previous download destinations.
Since this turns out to be rather a weird problem I'd better tell you I an running the x64 version of FDM 5.1 on 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.
Hello!

Thank you for the report, we'll try to solve the problem.

All Best,
Clive

Further tests show it happens only when FDM is started with the --minimized parameter.

I can't seen to download this file with FDM:
https://www.grc.com/sn/sn-566.txt
It always aborts with "File has changed on server" or similar.
It downloads fine in a web browser.

Dear User!

Thank you for the report.
If you restart the download in FDM, the file starts downloading.

Thank you for the great suggestions. It's really very helpful.

The "additional file extension for an uncompleted download" (.fdmdownload) is already added automatically to incomplete files.

The "show download info while in progress" feature is now added to the to-do list.:)

Actually, you can use the 3.9.7 FDM version until the 5th version with the feature appears.
To check if the feature is added to the 5th version, you can sometimes check the post: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17363

So is this an FDM problem or a misconfiguration or something at http://www.grc.com ?

Agree Jorge,

Unfortunately, the FDM team is blindly following the latest Silicon Valley trend in dumbing down the interface to a Homer Simpson level of the lowest common denominator.

Very sad really.

Terrific Clive, thanks for the information :D .

I look forward to when I can update to 5.1 permanently. Luckily as 3.9.x is so good a timetable is not a primary concern for me (unless 3.9.x ceases to function properly and is not supported (which to date has not been the case).

Hey,

FDM 5 stable released?

Official website doesn't mention "Beta" on the downloads now so is it FDM 5 stable?

And I tried the new release, main GUI opens on downloading, is this going to change anytime soon i.e main GUI doesn't opend on downloading? Make it like FDM 3, progress window & popup window (little window in the bottom right corner of the screen).

And I think the width of the top black bar should be less, looks bad i.e should be the same as the top white bar.

Thank You
Guest
