context menu "open folder" result new explorer process

Postby bigfrog123 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 8:41 am

Every right click on a downloaded file and choose "Open folder" will result in launching a new explore process. The full command line string of the process is "C:\Windows\explorer.exe /factory,{75dff2b7-6936-4c06-a8bb-676a7b00b24b} -Embedding". The new process continues to run even after closing the opened folder window and eventually result in many useless explorer processes. This occurs at least on FDM v3.8 and v3.9. Can "Open folder" function just reuse the existing explorer process or at least provide an option to configure this behavior? Thanks.

Hi!
Having a folder open in a separate process will allow multiple instances of the open folder window to be running with each instance running with a separate explorer.exe process. If one of these instances should close or crash, the other instances would be completely unaffected by it.

The new process ends after closing the opened folder window, but it takes some amount of time for explorer, approximately a 40-50 seconds.

I know exactly what you mean.
However, how about let the user decide, via an option, as Windows does.
In my computer , the explorer hasn't crashed since I configured my Windows to launch folder windows in the same Process.
