Heck, you don't even need that page as a test now, or the Dailymotion page. Try it on this very page. Go up to the header of this page ("Free Download Manager FireFox plugin" in the largest text), right-click, and click Download with FDM, and it also happens.

I've complained this for months but the dev team seemed no like to fix it.You can read my thread here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16694

They said that I was not using the latest release of Firefox then get this problem,lol.You guys had discussed about this problem,but you can see the dev team just ignore you.

The holy SHIT of problem won't be fixed unless the dev team recompile the vmsfdmff.dll.I've downloaded an old plugin of 1.5.8.then replace vmsfdmff.dll from 1.6.0.1.The problem still happens when you "Download with Free Download Manager" at any URIs.

What nightly build - 29 (aurora), 30 (central)? Have you tried to start on a clean Firefox user profile without any other add-on?

Follow reporting rules, please.

Parkd1 was right. I also did test for Nightly build and it crashes on start for that date's update even with the latest plugin 1.6.0. Had to disable it & add URL downloads manually.

Please have the dev team fix this. Thanks.

FYI, You asked "What nightly build?". Nightly is just Nightly and the Aurora build is not called nightly even though it is updated every night.

Wrong. Both Aurora (alpha2) and Central (alpha1) builds are available from nightly folder on Mozilla FTP server: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/
From time to time there are more nightly builds available - just browse the nightly folder carefully.

You did NOT report your Firefox build version and date, so your observation isn't really helpful. DO follow reporting rules, please.

Apologies, My Firefox nightly version is 30.0a1, updated on 02 March 2014. My FDM version is 3.9.3 Build 1360 with plugin version 1.6.0. All on my Windows XP 32-bit.

I usually just get my installer from this URL: http://nightly.mozilla.org/.

Hi Usher,

I concur with Rei's crash findings on trying to open FF 30

My O/S is however different being, Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)
and my FDM Plugin is also different being, (Firefox) Free Download Manager plugin version 1.6.1
My FDM version is the latest being, 3.9.3 Build 1360.

I tried the "change the Max Ver. trick" which worked for me with FF 29 Aurora and today with FF 29 Beta (Firefox Setup 29.0b1.exe) but the same trick did not stop FF 30 Nightly (various daily updates) crashing NOR, today's Aurora download of firefox-30.0a2.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Hope this helps you Usher and the Dev. team

Regards

Please try considering the following guideline:

1. Please find the folder in the directory:
c:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\
or
c:\Program Files (x86)\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\

2. Оpen the "install.rdf" file, find the following section:

<em:targetApplication> <!-- Firefox -->
<Description>
<em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>24.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
</em:targetApplication>

3. Replace the "24.*" version number by "26.*"

Your feedbacks are welcome!

FDM can use another location now, see FDM FAQ about Firefox troubleshooting.

Salutations to the GREAT team of FDM ! :D

I found on your site the method to uninstall/reinstall the FDM plugin. Does it apply to my situation or is there something else I can do to fix my problem that is : when I do a download, instead of the FDM download window that pops up, it is the main FDM program UI that opens ! :shock:

Am I obliged to go through the whole plugin uninstallation / reinstallation procedure :?: :|

Best regards

iBenny
XPro SP4
FF 38.0.1
FDM 3.9.5.1542

PS : when installing FDM with Torrent features, does it install the fully fledge Torrent program, or does it only do an integration with the Torrent program that must already be installed on the pc in the first place ?

It's normal action if you have main FDM window opened in the background. Shortly:
- you have only FDM icon in the notification area next to the clock - you should see only "Add download" dialog window;
- you have the main FDM window opened and see the FDM button on the taskbar - you will see the main FDM window moved to top and the "Add download" dialog window above;
- you haven't started FDM before opening browser and you haven't set FDM to run minimized - you will see the main FDM window etc.

There is no official XP SP4. There may be some strange config issues or unwanted software installed with unofficial packages. Noone can help you more if you don't provide any helpful links about your "SP4".

FDM uses well known rasterbar torrent lib. You don't need additional software if you don't want to edit torrents. Read older topics, please.

Hi Usher !

you are not very clear !

First, I have XPro SP3 and when it's all updated with the ± 130 MS updated KBxxxx files, some people call it unofficially SP4 :!:

You say

OK ! after having red this couple of times with more concentration, I do understand what you say !

FDM is set to load on Windows startup and then, I have the icon in the tray (notification area) and the FDM sentinel (my terminology) square icon on top of the tray

Image

The main FDM UI window is closed and not opened in the background.

When I perform a download, the FDM UI opens :

Image

and nothing does seams to do anything from that point on. No "Add download" dialog window pops up ! I then close FDM window (that takes about 10 sec) and then, the download is performed by the FF download utility.

I hope I made myself clearer :idea:

Wrong. You can find sites with all those updates repacked in a single installer - and this single package is what people call unofficial SP4. Some sites provide larger packages - containing optional updates (DirectX 9c, Windows Media Player 11, Internet Explorer 8, all available dotnet framework versions, etc.) and even some non-MS freeware.

It's drop box. You can easy check it yourself, just change language in FDM to English (as it is required for all reports).

Have you tested FDM with IE?
Can you see FDM plugin 1.7.3.1 enabled when browsing Firefox extensions?
Can you create a new WIndows user account, login to it, turn off your antivirus protection and test FDM and Firefox there, with no other add-ons enabled in Firefox?

Hi Usher,

About XP SP4, you're 100% right ! That's where I got my SP4 pack !

About IE ! YES... when dowloading, FDM does kick in instantly ! right away !

FF FDM plugin is started :

Will try FDM in another XPro installation in parallel...

Hi Usher,

did try in my other XPro OSes to no avail. With one, no AV was installed and I tried in a new bare FF profile with only FDM plugin installed. NO improvement in FDM download functionalities ! :(
