RD: x% when beginning new download.

Postby Guest » Wed Oct 17, 2007 12:10 am

Hi.

All of a sudden I get RD: x% before all downloads.
I don't recall ever seeing it before, and it's quite annoying.
Especially since I don't know what it is. :(

TIA.

I believe it means Reserving Diskspace. If it's a large file, you're probably seeing it now because it takes longer to do so.

Ah, that makes sense.
Many thanks.

Course, that begs the question, how did you know?
I couldn't find it in the FAQ, docs or Google.

Thanks again.

Just a guess :)

I'm not sure that's what it means, but I'm pretty sure that's what it's doing.

Just a question :)

I use FDM for a long time and this "function" was not present
in any older version.
Older versions just created a file in a second.
So what for is this? Is it better then before?

Older versions does the same thing, but they does not show progress.

Unfortunately, this is not true.
I've just tried it with 700MB file.
FDM 2.1 allocate the space in a second and immediately starts downloading. FDM 2.5 shows the progress.
I don't know if this new method is more "safe",
but I can say it is slower, much slower!

Yes, the difference is that FDM started download immediately while the allocation was in progress. Now FDM wait until allocation will be finished.

Ye, i think you're right since it does not show the size of the file before it does the RD.
