I just downloaded FDM 5.1.38 for Windows 10/8.1/8/7 and things have certainly changed since the 3.x version. It has been incredibly simplified, which is a good thing for newbies but also a bad thing for power users. I looked around for the documentation on the website, but couldn't find any. Pressing F1 in the program does nothing.

I couldn't find any of my favorite features. It was like me returning home after a long trip to discover my furniture is missing, including the light fixtures and even my doors. I've been cleaned out. What happened to all the stuff (features)??? ROFL

1) Is there a link where I can download the documentation?
2) I would like to download only .PDF files from a website and I can't seem to figure out how to add this filter.

Can anyone help?

FDM 3.x is still available, but FDM 5 and 6 have different approaches to design and functionality.

Thanks for the reply. I found the older FDM version on your Downloads page and I will try that. (I had lost my old FDM download a while ago).

Is there a way for me to add a file filter the new version (v5.1.38) so it only downloads files with a certain name or file extension? Like *.PDF. That would help a lot. If not I will see if FDM 3.9.7 runs on Win10 and give that a try.

I have the newest version of Free Download Manager as well as the old version be cause I want the list of all my downloaded files. The old version no longer works but it has features that the new version needs.

I can not schedule any more. It is nice to be able to schedule the downloads. It is what makes Free Download Manager the best!

Unfortunately New Version does not save preferences. Every time I select the scheduler it is the same time 06:00 to 10:00 (I want to be able to change these settings.)

Last night, I decided to try the new 5.x version on my other 64 bit computer and was extremely disappointed.

1. Where is my floating window that enables me to monitor downloads while doing something else?

2. In Microsoft Update Catalog, when I right click to download a file, I get "Download all Links" as the only option instead of all the context menu options that were available in the older version.

I also noticed that I could only achieve a download speed of 250- 300 KB/s when the FDM GUI was maximized. Is this by design, limiting the bandwidth when the FDM window is not maximized ?

I eventually managed to get the files that I wanted and was impressed by the performance of FDM.

I have used FDM for years and hope that you will consider retaining some of the features in the older version.

I jumped to 5 after some misgivings with fdm3 and it not playing nicely with various newer browsers. But when Alex and co announced 6, I jumped to it, and liked it much better than 5, even with the lack of a lot of the basic features that FDM3 has.

As such, the devs seem ot be focused on 6, now, and only for Windows 7 and up, as well as Linux and Mac. if you want ot request features from FDM3 to be integrated into 6, a good place to add your thoughts would be viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18067

Other thing, I can not install these 3 files (extensions):

fdminst-lite-bt.exe, fdminst-lite-ings.exe, fdminst-lite-vc.exe.

Execution sends:

Setup has not detected FDM on your computer.

1) This message appear when i try to instal these files(when i execute the .exe) and immediately a dialogue say : Setup has not detected FDM on your computer. Setup will be terminated. .
2) yes these files have Ben download to this site, I try the installation directly on my pc after downloading.
For more info: I use Win 10 Pro 1903, hp Pavilion.

Those files are extensions for FDM 3.x lite version, which must be installed before you install extensions.

There is NO lite version of FDM 5.x or 6.x.

It looks like the problem is you are trying to use the extensions for FDM 3.9.7 Lite, the only Lite version available.

FDM is not detected on your computer because the extensions are not compatible with FDM 5 or 6.
