Re: FDM 6.4 ALPHA

Postby johnlgalt » Fri Aug 23, 2019 6:06 pm

Found another bug.

Windows 10 Pro X64 Insider Preview build 18965.1005
FDM v6.4.0 [build 1819, Aug 19, 2019] ẞeta
Firefox Nightly 70.0a1 (2019-08-23) (64-bit) (updated daily, this is the current thus far)
Addon ver 3.0.40

When downloading from some sites (Box.com being one of them) using Firefox Nightly the DL gets passed directly to the browser, bypassing FDM.

However, if I use Chrome (and also tried in Dev / Canary builds of Edge (Chrome) also) FDM catches the DL. Using latest version of FDM addon from Chrome Web Store (3.0.32).

Test file: Malwarebytes ver 4 Public ẞeta hosted at box.com, available from the link in this post:

I think it's a problem with Firefox extension already described here:

Oh, boo. That sucks.

Thanks for the reminder of that, though. I had completely forgotten.

And *I* care - Fx is my 'daily driver' browser....

Hello,

I think, this is caused by Mozilla team not wanting to help us to intercept your downloads due to some technical reasons (as they said). Google Chrome is a way better in this part of the web extensions API. That's why our extension works much better under Chrome. We can't easily fix this without breaking Firefox browser.

Hello, Usher!

What are you talking about? :)

I use Firefox as my the only web browser. Its current version on my machine is 68.0.2. Our FDM extension works fine in it.

I use Firefox 52.9 in Windows XP. Extension 3.0.40 worked OK before April/May, when Mozilla blocked all WebExtensions:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17983

Some time after running patches provided by Mozilla, probably in June, FDM extension stopped catching almost all clicked downloads, right click still works. The same behaviour has been reported by other users which had to patch their Firefox in May.

Well, we're focused on developing FDM6 currently. Sorry, we had no time to address this issue yet. Anyway, isn't it enough to just use some stable versions of browser/fdm/etc. on the OS which is not updated anymore?

It's a problem with Firefox extension and patched Firefox, no matter what Windows, FDM or Firefox version is in use.
Is it really so difficult to refresh the extension as I wrote earlier? Just bump version to get extension signed with new AMO certificate and let us test, please.

The vast majority of files I can get by normal click. A few here and there I have to right click and select download with FDM.

But the Box files attempt to DLa n untitled file which is not the actual file that needs to be DLd via Firefox. In Chrome, as Alex pointed out, it works fine.

I am sorry to ask but can you all prioritize adding the "Stop Seeding" feature for torrent files.
Frankly i want test the app but it kind of absurd to keep seeding the file over 20.00 Share ratio or more. :|

Would it be possible to not have the settings reset to default after an update?

"Check for updates automatically" doesn't work.

Hello,
FDM6 has the setting which limits upload ratio. Check Traffic Limits settings.

Hello,
Settings should not be reset to default. It's a bug otherwise. Please provide some details.

add a download bar that is seperate "like μtorrent have" that would be really helpfull for large downloads instead of the main window.
