I started using FDM and liked it very much. But, after enabling and disabling the click & clipboard monitoring functions a couple of times, I found that my IE no longer shows its native download/saveto dialog for .exe files when I click on them (when FDM is disabled). Instead it tries to download and open them inside windows as web pages (or like .pdf files being opened inside IE).

The problem was fixed after I removed the following registry entries:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe]
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
"Version"="1.0"
@="Free Download Manager Click Catcher Plug-In for Netscape, Opera, Mozilla"
"Location"="C:\\Program Files\\Opera7\\PLUGINS\\npfdm.dll"

I don't know (haven't tried) if uninstalling FDM also fixes this problem, but disabling the monitoring options should let me use the default downloading dialog of IE.

If anyone else got similar behaviour, please let me (and others in the forum) know about it and confirm that its not specific to my Windows/IE configuration only.

Apart form the above and the "USER AGENT" ID problems mentioned in other threads, FDM looks like a very promising freeware and I really like to use it regularly (when I want to).

Btw, if these are (will be) addressed/fixed in future releases, assurance from any of the developers would be great.

The article documents how to remove and fix the entries left in the registry by a program (in this case FDM).
