Firefox also has the stable branch 3.6.3 , and has test versions for upcoming versions 3.7.x

If you want the latest STABLE release, just get version 3.0.852.
3.4.871 is the alpha project which is still labeled alpha for the upcomming (3.4) versions for known reasons.

look man your confusing versions here, I said "3.0, NOT 3.4

the "update says "3.0.852" I said I am using "3.0.870" which IS the "stable" version, NOT "3.4 something". I haven't seen where "3.0.871" was called a "alpha"

So I'm asking why the "3.0" version build is lower than what's already available.
