AncientMind wrote:Tested BETA 6, still found a bug ... and it's very similar to the one I posted after testing BETA 5:
After downloading one single file in 'full speed' (configured to 'heavy network usage'), which is downloaded with as many chunks as configured only 2 chunks are used for every additional file.
Furthermore: If I want to download a longer list of files (at least 10), FDM tells me, it creates a chunk - but nothing happens. Not one download starts in fact.

All these effects can be 'reset' by deleting FDM's application data folder in my user's profile as well as all started (and unfinished) downloads.

This behavior can be reproduced.

Please try to check this (confirm this at least - if possible).

Please try to describe the steps to reproduce the bug. And describe in some other words what you get and what you expect to get. Some screenshots can be useful also.

This behaviour can occur due to some settings or size of downloading file. Check if maximum number of connections per one server is not limited. In auto manage mode it is limited to some value which depends on the speed of your connection.

I'm not sure if I understood this correctly.

Right now I test once again (after deleting the last temporary und partly loaded files - I stopped them yesterday). Everything seems to be allright... sorry, if it should have been a false alarm for BETA 6...

And sorry for posting as guest... you can (perhaps should) delete it.

Please, how can i have the appropriate items to show there, so i can see an overview of my current FDM session.

bump.

Please, someone knows why ????

Ok, although no bug I can't understand this:
The following link leads to a download of LMMS:
http://kent.dl.sourceforge.net/project/lmms/lmms/0.4.12/lmms-0.4.12-win64.exe
I wanted to download this file and used FDM. As described FDM created 2 chunks at maximum, resulting in a download speed of around 20 kbps (!). Then I tried the same link with DownThemAll, the Firefox-AddOn. I configured DTA to use 15 chunks (ok, this value isn't necessary, but I simply wanted to test the effect of so many chunks). And - what a surprise - DTA was able to download with about 300 kbps (!!!).

BTW, I don't see a sense in a menu function called 'create one more section' if this doesn't work if clicked. Even in automatic traffic usage setting mode it would be necessary to enable this point, because for some servers out there the download speed seem to depend on the number of chunks very straight.

Therefore my question: Why does FDM limit the number of chunks in that way? Is there a situation, where a small number of chunks is an advantage? Ok, too many chunks are nonsense, of course. But 5-10 chunks often give significantly higher spaeed than 2 chunks, would you agree?

Hello, Alex.
Free Download Manager is the greatest download manager ever. I have 3.8 BETA 6 build 1151. (Nov 2, 2011) version installed. But some bugs are annoying:

* When torrent has been downloaded, it won't seed anymore.

* There are bug with bittorent. What to do to see this bug:
1. Start to download ~2gig torrent.
2. Wait until ~50% is downloaded.
2. Delete torrent from the FDM's list (don't delete files from HDD).
3. Start to download this torrent to same folder again.
4. You will see in FDM torrent's log:
...Preparing files on the disk... This may take several minutes...
5. Open Task Manager, you will see this:
Image
I have 2 gig RAM, and it uses 95% of RAM for ~3-5 minutes.
6. Listen to HDD, you will hear NOISE like from HUGE DEFRAGMENTING, because of swap file high usage...
7. Don't kill my HDD. :(

* There are another bug with bittorent. What to do to see this bug:
1. Start to download ~2gig torrent.
2. Wait until ~50% is downloaded.
3. Pause all downloads.
4. Look at FDM.
5. It will recheck whole torrent files for ~3-5 minutes with huge RAM and HDD usage, same like with previous issue...
6. Don't kill my HDD, please give me working Pause buttong... :(

* There are some similar issues with bittorent.
Sometimes... I have downloaded torrent to 50%, then after <stop torrent downloading>, it continues from ~30%; and etc...

Bittorrent has became so unstable since FDM beta versions. :(

Thanks for the Answer and sorry for weird English.

Hope it's OK to post here...

Running FDM 3.8 BETA 6 build 1151
Win7 x64

I don't remember this happening before, or maybe the options have changed. Anyway I've
got network options set to:
max connections = 4
max connections / server = 2
max number running downloads = 2

What I see happening is
1. download X starts
2. add download Y for same server
3. Y attempts to start -- even though X has established 2 connections for two sections
4. I get a *bunch* of error popups about Y telling me that the download can't be started

This scenario used to work. FDM would not start Y if it was for the same server as a
currently running download. It *would* start Y if it was for a different server.

Or... maybe I don't understand how to set network options.
I want max of 2 downloads running, each is allowed max of two connections, but max downloads/server = 1

ie. I don't want to abuse connections to a particular server, and since I have DSL it doesn't
make sense for me to run more than 2 downloads at the same time (my capacity is maxed
out with two downloads).

this has been the case since old versions. I saw this on WinXP and Win7 X32/X64 since 2009 versions of FDM

That's odd. I've been using FDM for many years starting with XP.
I've have not seen FDM attempt to start a download for server X if the max connections to
server X have been reached even if the max download sessions have not been reached.
I have only seen this behavior in the last few months.
Maybe it is intermittent, although it just happened to me again this morning.
Maybe the flurry of error message notifications is new.
I'll try to note the details if it happens again.

THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT HANDLING SITUATION OF "MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CONNECTIONS PER ONE SERVER" OPTION.

I already posted bugreports (here, for example: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15661 ) but nothing has changed. Unpredictable results are going on.
