Windows 8 problems

Postby DrAg0n » Wed Oct 24, 2012 7:58 pm

I found out that after installing FDM on Windows 8 RTM 64 bit I have problems surfing these sites :

facebook.com (many buttons simply don't work)
live.com (I get the message 'can't connect to outlook')

I think the plug-in is incompatible with IE10.
If I uninstall FDM and reboot the problems are gone.
If I reinstall it again the problems return.
If I disable IE10 monitoring in FDM options the problems are gone again.

I just hope FDM is going to support Windows 8 soon ... coz I love both of them.

I have same issues here.
Also have issues creating folders or deleting content from Skydrive.com.

The issues appear in the following conditions:

- IE integration is enabled, regardless of FDM is running or not.
- Flash Video integration is enabled and FDM is running. No issues if FDM is not running.

If you desperately need FDM-IE integration enabled all the time, a workaround is browsing problematic websites using IE8 mode, by hitting F12 and set Browser Mode and Document Mode both to IE8.

Hope this can be easily fixed :)

What FDM versions do you use? Is it the latest beta?
Some older FDM versions has got problems with flash video monitoring in IE. In such cases some pages may be unavailable and IE may hang on closing if you try to download any video with FDM. The problem for sure occurs in IE6-8, so setting browser mode to IE8 may not help.
Disable flash video monitoring for IE or use Firefox and report if it works, please.

Unfortunately FDM does not seem to play nice with IE10...

I tracked down the following thread of another person detailing their finding that things weren't working then removing FDM resolved all the issues.

I can confirm that FDM both the current production download and latest beta, do not play nice with IE10. I attempted to just disable the add-in from the browser, but that did not fix the issue.

I first suspected it, with no proof, then I reinstalled 8 from scratch , went to facebook, made posts etc with no issue, then installed FDM, and then the problem occurred. Attempted to disable add-in, still not working. Uninstalled FDM, problem goes away.

Love this app, will continue monitoring the forum until a fix is found.

I was having all sorts of problems with various web sites in IE10. FDM was the culprit. I tried disabling the flash download monitor and it helped a bit but I still had problems until I completely uninstalled FDM. Never had any problem with IE9 but FDM totally wrecks IE10. I hope the devs can get hold of a Win 8 test machine soon.

MS just made IE10 pre-release available for W7. I DLed it and installed it on W7 X64 running under VMware Player. It seems to work rather well, even FDM works in most cases. I am wondering if you guys either turned off the Pop-up Blocker or disabled it for the site(s) that were giving you trouble? That helped me out a lot. Also try center clicking on buttons that do not work or right click and try Open or Open in new tab. I am using it now. Enjoy, John.

Hi MisterJ,

I'm pretty confident to say that it has nothing to do with center clicking on buttons or the pop up blocker. Sites just don't work. Just to be safe, I have tried out what you have mentioned now but that has not helped much either.

At least from your info it can be garnered that this is something to do with the Windows 8 and IE10 combination and not just IE10 itself.

I'm having this issue as well with latest IE10 Release Preview installed on Windows 7 x64 SP1. This issue causes body part of an AJAX POST request to be empty. Thus, all web apps that use AJAX POST request would fail and/or not working as it's supposed to be.

Disabling IE browser monitoring won't fix this issue, nor disabling FDM through Manage Add-ons/Toolbars and Extensions.
The only workaround is by exiting FDM.

See discussion comments in the following SO question for details:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13188500/why-is-ie-10-refusing-to-send-post-data-via-jquery-ajax

Also, there are several Connect (https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/Feedback) reports regarding this issue.

So, please fix this issue by making FDM compatible with IE10.

Thanks.

Have the devs even acknowledged the Windows 8 IE10 problems?

I'm really missing my favourite download prog on Windows 8.

Guys, got the response below from the FDM team after sending an e-mail:
------------------------------
Dear User!
Please try our latest version FDM 3.9 RC: http://freedownloadmanager.org/board/vi ... =1&t=16019 (the direct download link is http://files2.freedownloadmanager.org/fdm391inst.exe)
Please enable browser integration ('Options -> Settings -> Monitoring') and download files by clicking on a link within your browser.
Please also keep an eye on our news and announcements. A new FDM version which will fix the compatibility with some browsers is due to be released.

Best regards,

FDM Team
--------------------------------
So, it seems we'll have a fix soon, until then I'll try the workaround suggested above.
Regards.

I can also report that this does not work - the problems are still the same.
