FDM 3.9.7
Re: FDM 3.9.7
Thanks a lot for the update & the new version!
Re: FDM 3.9.7
Firefox 43b6, Free Download Manager 3.9.7 build 1625, xpsp3
I am getting the following first message, and immediately followed by the second, but I think the second doesnt always appear. I say "I think" because I havent paid close enough attention to it recently (because it happens randomly on different sites and I'm usually distracted in the midst of a task) until a little while ago when it happened again and I decided to report it.
I seems to it happens once during a given session, but will repeat in a following session.
I just read this. Is this the suggestion for my my situation as well
I cant replicate, and I dont have a specific link to refer you to at the moment, but when it happens again I will gather more data and report back.
I wanted to offer what I found so far to see what you think

As it's described in the FDM FAQ, FDM in some cases may not update its extension properly. This time there may be problems with broken installer of FDM build 1625 - it's been updated more than once, so reinstall could really help.

Re: FDM 3.9.7
The first message is clear. You have turned (flash) video monitoring on and FDM just tries to update flvsniff.dll.
Google Chrome doesn't like flvsniff.dll turned on directly from FDM so it must be installed or updated separately. That's why you can see the first message.
When you click OK, FDM downloads exe installer built by Inno setup (you should see small download window) and tries to install just downloaded flvsniff.dll. If you have got any browser open or another FDM instance running, old installer cannot delete old dll and finish its job successfully so you will the second message.
As you see nothing happens randomly. If you don't want to see the second message, let the installer do it's work properly and close your browser before clicking OK to update. If you don't want to see the first message on any page containing flash ads, use click-to-play for Flash Player in Firefox or install "Flash control" extension which can block also HTML5 video autoplay on Youtube.

I have Firefox.
I respectfully pose the following observations and questions.

Ok, I know it sounds obvious to someone knowleagable as yourself, you but the second message, to the average person is kinda vague and confusing...
- "The installation/removable of a previous program was not completed": What previous program is this referring to? The "Flash video monitoring module", or perhaps something else altogether?
- "Run setup again to complete the installation": What "setup" is this referring to? fdminst.exe (that sure doesnt make any sense)? This "exe installer built by Inno setup" that you mention? Because if so, I have never seen it. Where would I find it after it is downloaded and shouldn't it referred to by name?
Usher wrote:As you see nothing happens randomly. If you don't want to see the second message, let the installer do it's work properly and close your browser before clicking OK to update.
Once again, taking it for granted the wherewithal and understanding of the average person
Usher wrote:If you don't want to see the first message on any page containing flash ads, use click-to-play for Flash Player in Firefox or install "Flash control" extension which can block also HTML5 video autoplay on Youtube.
I'm not understanding "if you don't want to see the first message". Please explain. Why would I not want to see this important update notice. Certainly I don't want to see it over and over, but once the proper steps are taken, the message should not reappear, correct?
I have several different profiles built for different purposes. Ive already have "Flash control" installed on some, and and "Click to Play per-element" on others,. However, The first message still appears regardless of the presence of either "Flash control" or "Click to Play per-element"
Re: FDM 3.9.7
Currently Google Chrome seems to be the most popular web browser so you cannot ignore problems reported by Chrome users. Read viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17267&p=41535#p41535 for more reasons on taking care of Chrome.oroville wrote:. I respectfully pose the following observations and questions.
The second message is also used for FDM full autoupdate, so it is more general. But I agree, it should be changed. Could you propose any more informative text, please?oroville wrote:Ok, I know it sounds obvious to someone knowleagable as yourself, you but the second message, to the average person is kinda vague and confusing...
You are quoting only a part of my statement. You should read "If you don't want to see the first message on any page containing flash".oroville wrote:Usher wrote:If you don't want to see the first message on any page containing flash ads, use click-to-play for Flash Player in Firefox or install "Flash control" extension which can block also HTML5 video autoplay on Youtube.
I'm not understanding "if you don't want to see the first message".
Once again: Let updater do its work properly. You can't do it when flvsniff.dll is in use or when logging to Windows user account with limited permissions, so do the following steps:oroville wrote:I have several different profiles built for different purposes. - Close all your web browsers (including other Windows user accounts) and other FDM instances (running on other Windows user accounts).
- Log out from other Windows user accounts, stay only on account with Administrator rights.
- Turn off flash video monitoring in FDM and close FDM.
- Go to your FDM folder - it's "%ProgramFiles%\Free Download Manager" directory. Delete old flvsniff.dll file and all *.tmp files in this directory. If you can't do it, you should restart Windows and try again.
- Run FDM (for users with Vista+ only - run FDM as Administrator) and turn on flash video monitoring again. Now FDM should ask "Additional components required for this feature to work. Would you like to download them?" Click OK and you will see download window with "Downloading and installing additional components" message. It means FDM downloads update installer to your %Temp% directory and will try to run it, if your antivirus doesn't block such actions.
- Make sure you have a new flvsniff.dll in your FDM folder. Now flash video monitoring should be properly installed and available in all your Firefox profiles.
(TL;DR resume)
In the future, when you see a prompt "New version of flash video monitoring module is available. Would you like to update?", do NOT click OK immediately. Close all your web browsers (including other Windows user accounts) and other FDM instances (running on other Windows user accounts) before installing update.

I followed your full set of instructions. However, instead of permitting me to turn on flash video monitoring again, I got the second message. So I restarted the computer, and I was then allowed to turn on flash video monitoring, after which flvsniff.dll 1.0.1064.0 was placed in my FDM folder. I went to youtube and downloaded a video with no message interference, so can I assume my current flvsniff.dll veersion is the updated one?
Re: FDM 3.9.7
It's not quite like it should be. It seems that some install task has been still active. Maybe it's been postponed by your antivirus (or other security software), maybe it's some malware active in your system.oroville wrote:I followed your full set of instructions. Version 1064 is OK, but Youtube currently uses HTML5 (which involves ytparser.dll in FDM) so it's NOT the right place for flash video (and flvsniff.dll) tests.oroville wrote:So I restarted the computer, and I was then allowed to turn on flash video monitoring, after which flvsniff.dll 1.0.1064.0 was placed in my FDM folder. Currently you can download video from Youtube directly in FDM with NO browser open (no flvsniff.dll installed, no flash video monitoring turned on) - just copy link from Youtube, go to "Flash video downloads" tab in FDM and click "Add download" button.

But the question remains why did I get that message ?
Then it means the problem was how FDM was installed. If one doesn't want to help to do a proper reporting there isn't much the developers can do to resolve it.

Thank you for your concern, but I installed it normally.
Just for you step by step
1- Download from an official source like here.
2- Right Click on the downloaded file and select "Run as admin"
3- Click Next next next
For me all that matters is that a re-install solved the problem (which was nothing major).
Come to think of it, my virus-scanner warned me about a DLL (included in the installation file), which I refused to run.
Will try again and find the offending DLL (Virus Logs already deleted)
Re: FDM 3.9.7
That's way cool you did a 64bit version of 5.1. Any plans on a 64bit version of 3.9.7 now that Firefox has takn 64bit out of testing and released it. Thanks.
Re: FDM 3.9.7
Starting from FDM 3.9.6 build 1614 both 32- and 64-bit Firefox builds are supported.parkd1 wrote:That's way cool you did a 64bit version of 5.1. Any plans on a 64bit version of 3.9.7 now that Firefox has takn 64bit out of testing and released it. Thanks.

Re: FDM 3.9.7
FDM does not download xml files from opencart's phpBB based forums.
https://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=9192
Check the links in the first post i.e "single_temp_order_id.xml" (vqMod definitions)
FDM catches the URL as file.php, starts the download and fails with "Access denied. Invalid user name or password"
The file nor the site are password protected for the download.
Tested on Win7 Pro (x86), IE11 and FDM 3.9.7 #1625

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Yeah, so it looks like all the downloads are failing starting today. The download window disappears abruptly, and then when you bring up the main FDM window and click on the failed download there, it says, "Access denied. Invalid user name or password".
Thank goodness for adoxa above, who seems to have discovered somehow that changing the download identity from "Free Download Manager 3.x" to "Free Download Manager 3.X" (i.e. the x from lowercase to uppercase) seems to take care of it.
To do this for all downloads, on the main FDM window:
Options --> Settings --> New Download (under Downloads on left) --> Advanced (button) --> Default download settings --> Protocol (tab) --> HTTP (group) --> Identify on server as: Free Download Manager 3.X
You may have to restart FDM and/or the browser.
The only thing that has changed between Firefox and FDM 3.* since yesterday is that the Firefox version got bumped up from 43.0.3 to 43.0.4.
Before everyone gets asked 50 questions of "What ... are you using?" and go back and forth for a week, I thought I should inform...

Re: FDM 3.9.7
The download issue was indeed fixed with the change suggested by Arthur.
I did also test the other options available and the result of the test is that "Free Download Manager 3.x" (lower case x) is the ONLY setting not working.
I've disabled the ESET Antivirus just to be sure that it is not interfering.

FDM 3.9.7 is not able to download this files:
1) http://www.rlvision.com/files/PdfImageE ... _Setup.exe
2) http://install.nitropdf.com/professiona ... _pro10.exe
But I can download it seamlessly using Total Commander ("FTP New Connection" window).
