After updating to Firefox 38.2.0 ESR (Portable) and FDM 3.9.6 build 1614 with extension 2.0.14 I noticed that the context menu isn't working properly sometimes:
1) Rightclicking on a wmv or mp4 link doesn't show any context menu.
2) Marking the link as text and then rightclicking on it shows "Download selected with FDM" which is working but complicated.
3) Rightclicking somewhere on the background shows "Download all with FDM" which opens a long list of selectable objects. Also working but complicated.

Before the latest updates of FF and FDM I always got a context menu for 1)

But sometimes on the same website it is still working as expected.
I noticed a difference which might cause the problem:
a) The links that are still working start with "www."
b) The broken links don't start with "www."

Used Software:
Windows 7 64bit german
Firefox 38.2.0 ESR 32bit german
FDM 3.9.6 english

FDM is a really nice tool, so I hope you can fix it.

I am also experiencing an issue with the context menu with the new JavaScript extension. I am using a php front end, h5ai, to view directories on my web server, and I am not getting any FDM context entries when right clicking on files. Here is a link to a demo of it in use:
https://larsjung.de/h5ai/demo/selection%20and%20download/

Right clicking on a blank space will bring up all the appropriate context listings. All files are listed normally in the "Download All with FDM". The previous version of the FDM extension worked with this indexer and is currently working with the Chrome plugin. The context menu functions normally when viewing directories without h5ai. My webserver does not have a WWW in its address. I am not experiencing any differences between file types.

So far this is the only place where the context menu does not work for me, and I have been getting by using the clipboard monitor. I realize this is a fringe case, and I appreciate any time you spend looking into this. If you can figure out what the extension is looking for that h5ai is not providing, that would be a big help. Thank you.

Old extension always displayed all options in context menu, no matter if they worked OK, see older topic: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16172&p=37878&hilit=context+menu+direct+links#p37878
New extension displays only working options.
If you think something is wrong with the new extension, do tests with context menu using old FDM extension (1.7.5.4) in old Firefox version (39.0.3 or 38.1.3 ESR now) and report only links that work with old software versions but don't work with the new ones, please. It will help developers to find regression in a new code.

FF 39.0.3 + FDM Extension 1.7.54 + FDM build 1559 - The context entries work as expected. All the context option were there when right clicking on files, and the "Download with FDM" sent the download to FDM as expected.
FF 39.0.3 + FDM Extension 2.0.14 + FDM build 1559 - The context entries are absent over files in h5ai.
FF 40.0.2 + FDM Extension 1.7.54 + FDM build 1559 - Was unable to test. I could not get FF to enable the extension because it "could not be verified".

This contains some 30KB JPGs that I used for the above testing.

In some cases old extension doesn't work properly - either doesn't call "Add download" dialog window at all (can't catch download link) or passes wrong/incomplete data (wrong or missing cookies, referer, session ID, etc.), so...

You should also report that FDM downloaded proper files, not any text/html with error message.

Thanks for your report, results of other tests are obvious. I think there are some problems with AjAX-like code used by your page - new extension looks only into the AJAX overlay, old extension may sniff also html code of the background page.

Your server blocks TLS 1.0 for https protocol. It means your site and your files may be unavailable for older browsers or for people still using Windows XP.

A few days ago, Windows Defender could delete this helper without any notice. Our extension can't work without the helper. We claimed the false positive, so now it doesn't seem to block us. But, this doesn't fix the problem if Defender has already deleted the helper. In this case, please reinstall the latest build.

Sorry, I can't provide the original links but I took a deeper look at the html-code and I think I found what causes the problem:

<table width="75%" border="0" align="center">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>
<h4 style="text-align: center;" align="center"><a href="/this/is/just/an/example.wmv">Download</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">WMV Version</h4>
<p></a>
</td>
<td>
<h4 style="text-align: center;" align="center"><a href="/this/is/just/an/examplehd.wmv">Download</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">HD Version</h4>
<p></a>
</td>
<td>
<h4 style="text-align: center;" align="center"><a href="/this/is/just/an/example.mp4">Download</h4>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">MP4 Version</h4>
<p></a>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

I'm not a web-designer but this looks like two "buttons" for one href each. The first one (Download) works with the context menu but the second one (e.g. HD Version) does not. I just noticed today that "Download" is also a link. I was always using the second one. As I said before this was not a problem with the previous versions of FF, FDM and/or the FF-extension.

Hope this helps...

You have provided invalid html code. There is no guarantee that it will be parsed properly in any browser, so the results of using context menu are unpredictable, no matter what improvements will be introduced in FDM.
If you don't want to provide any link to the site, you can check its code by yourself using well-known online validator: https://validator.w3.org/ and report broken code to the webmasters of that site.
I'm afraid that's all I can help you. Maybe some newer FDM version will work OK in the future, but the html code may be broken deliberately again and again...

Ok here a odd problem. I first downloaded FDM in Oct 2013 (3.9.3 build 1360). I forget what version of Firefox I had at the time but FDM worked great and always has. I stopped upgrading Firefox at v33 due to some incompatibilities with various plugins and extensions I use all the time.

Never had a problem with FDM until a couple of weeks back (I think I accidentally did a update of the extensions). FDM does not work with Firefox since. I have tried installing the original version of FDM (uninstalling first making sure Firefox is not running) and the extension says it is incompatible, which is odd since it DID work before. I have tried the newer versions 3.9.4, 3.9.6 build 1614, and even the older 3.8 to no avail. The extension in refuses to activate. I went in and edited the .rfd file changing the max version. On the older versions it crashes Firefox. On the newer versions of FDM it will allow me to active the extension but it won't actually forward links to FDM when I try to download something.

I am at a bit of a loss as what to do next. I know I could update Firefox but then I would loose access to several plugins and extensions that are no longer updated, I think I would rather try to find another download manager (but FDM is the best i have ever found).

Do what you should do before - read the FDM FAQ about Firefox troubleshooting.
Note, that there were about 10 incompatible changes in Firefox API, and FDM installer usually provides extension working with 2 latest changes only. So what Firefox and FDM versions do you want to use?

Actually I did read the FAQ on the troubleshooting, although I was already taking the same steps anyway.

I realize there are a lot of incompatible changes, and I am sorry I wasn't clear on the situation I am interested in getting FDM to work with Firefox 33 again. Like I have been using. What version of FDM doesn't matter to me.

I think you can upgrade your Firefox even to 38 ESR. Why do you insist on using Firefox 33? What is wrong with newer Firefox versions?

Guest wrote:What version of FDM doesn't matter to me.
You can install FDM 3.9.5 build 1537. It should work OK with Firefox 30 - 38, but there are some issues you must fix before.
1. Uninstall FDM, remove all installed FDM extensions and clean your Firefox install - as it's been described in the FAQ. There should be no FDM extension seen in Firefox after this step.
2. FDM 3.9.5 changed format of its service files (*.sav) so you cannot go back to earlier FDM version if you have no backup. Some installers may even break service files during conversion from/to older format, so you should follow steps describe here: viewtopic.php?p=40412#p40412 if you want to get back your FDM history (download list including torrent/magnet state, list of download groups and download folders, credentials kept in SIte Manager etc.). I can provide FDM 3.9.5 build 1537 and 1538, if needed.
3. You should should see properly installed FDM extension in Firefox after step 2, but it may not fix your broken sav files, see here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17283 - so your report is needed.
