Finally found an alternative to FDM !
Finally found an alternative to FDM !
I know use this free download :
http://wordrider.net/freerapid/
The only thing it lacks is segmented downloading, but at least that one doesn't give you 13kB files from Rapidshare like this abandoneware FDM does, it supports a buttload of file sharing sites using plugins, and setup takes about 1 minute.

Guests shouldn't be able to post IMO, and I love FDM, I'll never stop using it, I'm a PC tech and I install it in every new WinXP installation. This product is the best for me, is free, has an active development, it gets improved, patched, I love its website, integrates on all current browsers, so pretty much I'll ignore your disloyal offer of another download manager.
Please guest go away if you don't use FDM and never come back, thanks, good-bye.
Cheers.

I also love FDM however since installing windows 7 I can no longer download multiple files in one go
I used to click file, import, then import list of urls from clipboard, this no longer works with windows 7.
I either have to find another downloader or add individual links each time I want to download multiple files, hopefully this will be fixed in the near future because this is the best downloader out there in my opinion.

Re: Finally found an alternative to FDM !
I was kinda lost with FDM at first. It didn't seem intuitive like flashget where mulitple url's were in clipboard. Thanks to this thread and using the import menu I can get it to do what I need. Thanks all.

With all due respect, I strongly disagree!technoguy wrote:Guests shouldn't be able to post IMO
One of the reasons I am "Appreciative" is because I can post on this forum without the hassle of registration/login.
The whole xenophobic, "walled city", "let's forcibly captivate our audience" approach to Web presentation is the past. It has gotten way out of hand, to the extent that many people, like myself, don't even bother with sites that require registration anymore. Even with this "boycott" in place, my database of essential accounts/passwords contains hundreds!
IMO, sites for software, especially community-driven projects, have no business excluding anyone who wants to make a point about their product/project. (How many GIMP issues have I not reported because bugzilla is too much of a hassle? How many Firefox issues?!)
Requiring the user to suffer unneeded hassles is antithetical to what the whole "free" and "open" ethics are about.
Regarding the OP: Obviously his goal in posting relates to more than simply his quest for the ultimate download manager, because if he had truly found something that great, why even bother looking back? No, he came here to troll. Ignore it. For that matter, his reference to rapidshare and emphasis on support for other file sharing sites clearly indicates he is not looking for a full-featured, general purpose download manager. He is looking for a warez DL manager. So if he's into warez, he obviously has that juvenile sense of entitlement that most such "pirates" have, which in itself is reason to ignore him. Not to mention the associated phenomenon of "complaining about stuff makes you cooler by comparison" + "lashing out at anything and everything gives you a tiny sense of strength in your pitiful powerless world." Of course if he was such hot stuff he would simply take the code of FDM and tune it for his purpose instead of coming here whining.
Anyone who turns their back on any reasonably capable FOSS package for an inferior alternative just doesn't have a clue. Ignore.
Technoguy -- and others who believe as he does -- I hope you reconsider your opinion(s).
