Bug Report
Hello,
I have been doing some tests with FDM 3.9.1 BETA build 1268 and found some bus in the monitoring options. Here is a list of what I have found:
I would also like to point out that the future of Apple Safari is somewhat of uncertain, and that also Netscape has been discontinued a long time ago. With this I would like to know if it is possible to support new browsers like Maxthon and SRWIron.
I have been doing some tests with FDM 3.9.1 BETA build 1268 and found some bus in the monitoring options. Here is a list of what I have found:
- Integration with SeaMonkey (Mozilla Suite) is broken. When the monitoring option is enabled the following message appears "Can't install SeaMonkey (Mozilla Suite) monitoring" - SeaMonkey 2.12. Though, Flash video download is working in SeaMonkey.
- The interface needs to be updated in Settings -> Downloads -> Monitoring you can read that Opera 6.x - 10.x is supported. This information is not up to date since Opera 12.02 is already supported.
- Apple Safari Flash video download is not working. Safari version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2)
- Using the "Download it" button and using the context menu results in different file names - see image.
- The flash download video feature does not always retrieve the file size. - see image
- When playing HMTL5 videos the "Download it" button only shows for Firefox (15.0) for the same video in IE (9.0.8112.16421) the "Downlaod it" button is not displayed.
- FDM fails to capture the name of the videos (Flash and HTML5), the resulting downloaded file is named videoplayback and has no extension - see image (tested using the context menu download option, and the right click menu option in the tray icon - not tested with the download it button)
- FDM cannot download videos from gorillavid.in
I would also like to point out that the future of Apple Safari is somewhat of uncertain, and that also Netscape has been discontinued a long time ago. With this I would like to know if it is possible to support new browsers like Maxthon and SRWIron.
Re: FDM 3.9.1 BETA
Regarding build 1261 and earlier versions of 3.9.1:
Whenever FDM tries to make a new section and the server doesn't respond, FDM seems to give up for a long time. Sometimes it seems that only when another section breaks it starts making sections again.
Well, here in Benin server more often don't respond than do, which is a main reason why I need a download manager in the first place. I have set all wait periods I could find to very low values, but I can't find one that makes FDM retry quickly after failing to make a section.
Is that an oversight on my part or on yours?
It also gives up on checking for maliciousness (and finding opinions in general) and finding the mirror site site.
Another problem is that while checking for malicious downloads or mirrors, no downloading takes place. This means a delay from 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the connection.
I should like to see the download running from the beginning.
Below is the log of the download of FDM 1268, showing both issues (with a good connection).
It's in Dutch, unfortunately, but I guess it's readable enough for those who know the English logs.
Also my excuses for not knowing how to make the log collapsible..

Hmm - I posted a message and the system said I had succeeded, but it seems to be gone. Maybe I accidentally posted a new topic rather than a reply?
Anyway, it was about Youtube downloads often suddenly disappearing. I now have one log from about a second before the download disappeared, and it shows what I have seen several times: if connecting to the mirror search site succeeds, the download may disappear around when the results are to come in.
Now this download did not become a mirror - there was no other download of that film.
This was one of the films from www.youtube.com/user/banancopperfield?f ... CEwQwRs%3D, most of which disappear that way and are therefore undownloadable by FDM.
(I should like downloads that become mirrors not to disappear, but change categories, the way completed, halted or waiting downloads do, by the way. That way their logs stay inspectable. I also should like user-defined filters, so that I could define filters such as "non-completed", which would show all running, planned or halted downloads in one list.)

All right, the other message is here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16185 .
I switched off the search for mirrors, but the downloads still disappear, just when they start - if they don't it normally is because the server doesn't react. Is there any other information I can give to help find this bug?
As an aside: what about a command that puts a detailed log in English on the clip board, one with all the info you want for debugging purposes. I like FDM (and the log) in Dutch, and I normally don't want insane amounts of information, but why not collect it anyway (in English) and have it available when it is needed? Such a command would find a natural place on the log context menu. Another option would be to have two menu items: log detailedness and log language (English/local) - so one could switch to detailed and English before copying to the clipboard.

Re: FDM 3.9.1 BETA
All right, I managed to capture two detailed logs of Youtube downloads just before they disappeared (by manually copying to the clipboard at each change, so I may have missed some split-second last log entry). I see no way to attach a file to this message, so what does one want me to do with it?
A small idea: what about unifying the download progress and the download properties windows - having the former be a tab on the latter, and making the latter non-modal? That would allow much more interaction through the progress window, without having to bring up the complete FDM interface.

Re: FDM 3.9.1 BETA
Forgive me if this has been asked or already implemented. However looking in options I don't see it. I must be blind, even the other crappy DM's have that simple feature. In today's age of colossal sized downloads, where is the Win7 TASK BAR progress meter? The best feature of the Win7 UI isn't implemented???

If i download a video, FDM shows me a list of links that are available for that video (all are 1024MB or 2048MB). If i start the download FDM looks like it is downloading the video, but it never will come to the end of download process - it hangs at 99.8%.
If i interrupt the download at 99.8% sometimes i have a broken video, sometimes the full video with wrong duration time and a big bunch of empty area of free bytes in the file end.
It maybe also some server-side issue, I think. The site webmasters use Akamai Content Delivery Network to share video and they seem to reserve space for streams in chunks - 1GB, 2GB etc. 1 GB can contain a little more than 1 hour so the real video be shorter and FDM hangs in the end of the stream. Technically it's a kind of sparse file, so the site owners pay only for used space, not for reserved space and the webmasters just don't care if the file size is correct.
Why other downloaders don't have the same issue (ClipGrab). It reports and downloads the correct size?

ClipGrab works only for YouTube.
the issue described appeared at http://www.mx-life.tv/.
ClipGrab does not its job on that source, because it is not YouTube.
Re: Bug Report
drkdfndr wrote:Hello,
I have been doing some tests with FDM 3.9.1 BETA build 1268 and found some bus in the monitoring options. Here is a list of what I have found:I have done all of these tests on a Windows Vista SP2 virtual machine.
Will the Next Beta have these Fixes?
Would love to have them
