Dear Users!

Christmas is wonderful time for giving gifts! And our development team has also prepared one for all FDM users and fans. The last design draft presented several months ago has been refined and improved. Based on this work, a prototype of the new software has been recently created.
Presenting the FDM 5.0 Alfa version on this Forum, we just want to gather some statistics and your feedbacks concerning the new look of our program.

For all old FDM design fans, we've just released the new 3.9.2 version which can be downloaded from our official download page.
You can install and try our new FDM 5.0 version without uninstalling the old one.

The new FDM 5.0 has been designed to bring all the best from its old 'big brother', as well as to simplify the downloading process in general. Besides working on the modern and intuitive HTML5 interface, our development team made an effort to improve the overall FDM functionality. For instance, full Unicode support was added. Settings page was also redesigned: most experienced settings were moved into the 'Advanced' section.
What's more, a built-in support page was added to allow our users contact our support team directly from the program's interface. Please feel free to send us any bug reports, questions, as well as express your ideas regarding the adding new features by using this form.

As I have mentioned above, it's only a prototype version, and we need some more time to bring it to the conditions compared with the 3.9 version and to implement new features that are most required by FDM users. However, I am sure, we will be able to do all the best thanks to your active collaboration.

WARNING! DO BACKUP YOUR FDM 3.x *.sav SERVICE FILES BEFORE INSTALLING FDM 5!

Easy there, boy.
This is just a prototype, an (very) early stage. Let's just wait patiently and see how it improves.

WTF ??

Who the hell do you think you are ?

Just keep those opinions to yourself. Without proper explanation those comments are useless and meaningless.

This is a free program and one of the best out there.

Want to help out improving a alpha release ?

Justify your phrases !

Back on topic:

Some options are missing:

- A "clean downloaded list" button
- Right click option that forces a new segment in the current download.
- How to choose Categories directory/new one

Thank you for this release and it's very welcome.

I like this layout. More clean than old one.

In my opinion FDM 5 is in pre-alfa state and it should not be used by current FDM 3.x users. It makes old FDM service files unusable because of conversion to Unicode (UTF-16). Below are my observations and suggestions:

1. There is NO warning about file conversion, there is NO warning to make backup. It would be better if FDM 5 create new service files (with another extension, f.e. *.sa5 or *.sav5) instead of reusing old ones.

2. Conversion in some cases is either broken or unneeded:
- Filenames are converted without reserving more space for UTF-16 strings. That way all filenames are truncated and only the first half of every filename is saved.
- URLs (in canonical form) and cookies are US-ASCII strings. They use percent or Base64 encoding if needed. There is no need to convert these strings to UTF-16.

3. As it's been explained many times in FDM forum, service files in current format are usable only for small file size (less then 1 MB). Converting ANSI/ASCII strings to UTF-16 makes them at least twice longer, so *.sav file size limitation is very annoing, especially when downloading huge amount of files or large torrent files. It would be better to completely change service file format, f.e. use SQLite database files.

I have already sent to support my 1.7 MB downloads.sav file broken by FDM 5.

You can't if you haven't got backup.

Thanks for the confirmation, Usher. Fortunately for me,
I only lost the Fx/IE plugins until I reinstalled 3.9.2. TU

Hi,

first:wow :D

The integration in Firefox 17 now works without flashget!

In the old versions if you specify a different folder for downloads
once, the programm remembers. In the Alfa you have to set newly
in advanced per program start. Could you please make it stay (settings)?

I didn't find the possibility for the antivirus after download check by fdm.

Thanks

What's the point of skipping version number 4? Is 4 bad number or something? :o

Hi thank for you report, please try to provide more detailed information next time - it will save enough time to reproduce the problem and fix it operatively. I mean your environment, was previous 3.9 version installed or not, was it deinstalled, was version 5.0 installed with version 3.9 or without and so on.
I'v just re-uploaded new installer, please try to download and reinstall it.
Sorry for inconvenience.
vaneo,

I do not like this version. lack of a normal window to collect, as in the fdm 3.9.2. Give the old everything.
