Problem with expired download link
Problem with expired download link
When a video link or any other download link expires, how to change it if the website doesn't provide direct link to copy?
Some websites provide masked download link like https://...../file_dl.php (many file sharing sites)
putting the above link in change url option of fdm will be invalid as it'll download a webpage
and clicking the link will start a new download in fdm without any prompt to resume the already present download
in this case a new link grabber from browser will be great
Please guide me on this, if this feature is already implemented

Re: Problem with expired download link
Expired links is not something FDM can fix they expire for a reason and FDM isn't the problem here. If your link can't be downloaded then you have to find another fix for your expired links.

Im not asking like, why my download links are expiring with fdm installed.
What m really asking is,
1. how to refresh expired download links from websites that doesn't provide direct link to copy, like http://.../filedl.php
2. How to resume dowload if already presents in download list

Re: Problem with expired download link
For an existing download with expired link:
1. With idm
-Automatically captures the correct download link from browser as soon as the download link is clicked again, replaces the expired link with the newly acquired link then resume download
-If i try to download the same file again, it asks if i want to resume the existing download or start over
2. With fdm :
-manually copy correct download link from the website and put in change url option. Some file sharing websites don't allow us to copy the correct download link(direct download link). Also can't copy download link from video streaming sites, most of them don't provide download option, you have to capture the link
-If i try to download the same file again, it just creates a new download and starts from scratch
How to do it? Hoping you understood the problem this time.

From what I can see, before I try it myself is anything that is hosting or sharing or Crunchyroll are sites that are protective of their site and I can see why download links expire for security and so other do not use their site as a torrent site causing them heavy bandwidth usage. Now if you were downloading something like FDM on the site here since it's not something on the level of Crunchyroll vested interest then links will not be a problem.
Here's a more closer meaning to the expired link:
Sometimes a download link remains valid for only few hours. If download is not completed within that time boundary, download will fail and you will get an error message ‘Download session is expired.
Another issue we have seen occasionally is when buyers use a "download accelerator" that actually splits the file into several parts to download simultaneously. Each of those concurrent partial-downloads would count as an "Attempt" against their link, which can exhaust all your permitted Attempts all at once and may appear to expire the link prematurely.
Re: Problem with expired download link
@StormJumper
Some download links expire, I know that well (for security reason or whatever)
How to refresh those links and resume downloading if my download is halfway expired is the point i want to make here.
Coz with IDM i can do that with above links
FDM's change url option isn't helpful while refreshing download links from the aforementioned websites
Please say you understood this time, coz I can't make my point any more clearer, English isn't my native language so i'm weak at it

Dear RazorSiS!RazorSiS wrote:@Clive @FDM-Team
Any help here please!
1. The issue with the 1st link is a bug. We've added it to our to-be-fixed list.
2. The 2nd, 3d, and 5th link are expired. If a link gets expired, you need to catch it again from the browser. Then in the FDM dialog, you will be prompted to continue downloading the existing download.
Yes, there is also a Change URL option in the shortcut menu, which allows you to replace the link manually.
3. Videos can be downloaded by calling the context menu.
Start the video. Call the context menu on an empty area of the page and click "Download video with FDM".

Clive
Re: Problem with expired download link
Hi Clive,
Thanks for your time looking into my problem
Cool
It doesn't prompt me to resume rather starts a new download.
Check the screenshot : https://imgur.com/a/zKqjy
The file i'm downloading is already present (at 5%) when I try to download it again, fdm prompts to start a new download but no resume option
Sorry, if I'm doing something wrong
Thanks for the info but I already know how to download video with fdm
When I download from the video link (4th link) I provided, fdm dialog shows 5 links to download but none of them is a video, just small .ts files <1MB

Re: Problem with expired download link
This video file is streamed in chunks, see MPEG DASH standard. To complete a full video file you should download about thousand *.ts chunks (not only the first 5 ones) and join them in a single *.ts file. FDM doesn't support such operation so far.RazorSiS wrote:When I download from the video link (4th link) I provided, fdm dialog shows 5 links to download but none of them is a video, just small .ts files <1MB
In FDM 3.x you can use batch download, as the chunk URLs are numbered. You can download a few *.ts files to see naming pattern used in URLs and create template for batch download. There is also unplug extension for Firefox that may dig deeper in web code and sometimes it provides URL for full mp4 file. See https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/unplug/ and note that it's not a web extension so it won't work in Firefox 57.

@Usher
Hi,
That was quite informative
Gonna try the extension or switch website if it fails
Thanks mate!
Anything on the 2nd problem I mentioned above? That is the main reason of this thread.
Should I switch to fdm 3 coz fdm5 doesn't provide resume option for existing download (screenshot in my previous post)

Problems with file and video hosting sites were described many times, just search in older topics: search.php?keywords=file+video+hosting+services&terms=all&author=Usher&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=-1&t=0&submit=SearchRazorSiS wrote:Anything on the 2nd problem I mentioned above? In general, only premium (payable) users may use direct persistent links, resume downloads and use download managers. Other people should just try to download only one file at a time using only single connection per site, but in some cases you'll get only some small html file with error message, with no guarantee to resume and to success at all.
Note also that:
- There is NO faster download in any download manager using only single connection.
- You must use your browser to get a new temporary link, so you should better bookmark the download webpage in your browser rather than keep expired link in download manager.
Resuming MUST be allowed by the server side, so it's not a reason to change download manager. However, classic FDM 3 is more flexible in managing problematic sites:RazorSiS wrote:Should I switch to fdm 3 coz fdm5 doesn't provide resume option for existing download (screenshot in my previous post)
- You can use Site manager to limit connections per site.
- You can add a new temporary link as a mirror link (with no guarantee to resume download).
- If some site doesn't allow to use FDM, you can add this site to skip list in FDM and the next time FDM will let your browser to download files from that site.

Re: Problem with expired download link
@Usher
I think you misunderstood here
I know some sites dont offer resume support but I'm not asking about them here. Lets keep them aside
Some sites support resuming but their link expires after sometime
Example: Windows iso download from microsoft site (supports resuming but download link valid for 24hrs)
At the end of 24hrs, lets say my download of windows iso is 89% complete and the link expires
How to resume it now? I don't want to startover
As Clive said above, I'll get a prompt from fdm to resume the existing download but check the below screenshot, there is no option to resume the existing download.
Clicking the Download button above just starts a new download.
I used this link (http://tusfiles.net/e59wf5iyci8n) in the screenshot above, just as an example
Also I know how to use "change url" option but its not useful while downloading from this link http://tusfiles.net/e59wf5iyci8n
How to do it then?
Thanks
