I have been using FDM for over 8 years now, tried all other download managers (free & paid for) and nothing comes close to this great one. The problem is that every time Firefox is updated, they make FDM obsolete, and you will not be able to use it with FF, why? No idea. :x :? :shock:

It's so great so that I refuse to use any other download manager, :idea: I work around this Firefox problems by running FDM and dragging the download links to the FDM drop box, and it works :wink: , if you think about it, it's the same as clicking on the link 8)

C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension

install.rdf

Look for -
<em:maxVersion>14.*.*</em:maxVersion>

Change the 14 to 15 (or 16 like i did) and save. The restart Firefox and your plugin is back!

OK, this works too, thanks for the tip 8) , I did change it to 16, but you must go to the add-on page on Mozilla (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... er-plugin/ ) and install the add-on again, restart Firefox and viola, it's working again. :D

Plugin for Firefox!!

Postby rbok6 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 9:30 pm

I hate downloading FDM everytime FF releases a new version. where's the fdm pluging? it isn't supported on FF 17. and what about FDM's auto-update? does that even work? I don't think so.
I always have to come here and download the newest FDM version, because goin to [help>search for updates] seems to not work. It always says I'm using the lastes version. can you fix that?

FDM not installing properly with Firefox 17

Postby Kel » Wed Dec 05, 2012 8:36 am

Hey,

I tried to install the newest FDM (build 1249) today. The FDM itself works fine so far but there is a problem with the integration in Firefox (17.0.1). I had a read in the forum and especially the FAQ but unfortunately it is still not working. I followed all your tips from the FAQ (deleting Startup Cache...) but with each new installation it always installs the 1.5.7.4 extensions (from what I read is not the newest version) in firefox. This version is automatically deactivated by firefox. I also had a look in the install.rdf from \Firefox\extension. Which also only mentions version 1.5.7.4

Code: Select all

<!-- Required Items -->
        <em:id>fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org</em:id>
        <em:name>Free Download Manager plugin</em:name>
        <em:version>1.5.7.4</em:version>
        <em:unpack>true</em:unpack>

        <em:targetApplication> <!-- Firefox -->
            <Description>
                <em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
                <em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>
                <em:maxVersion>14.*.*</em:maxVersion>
            </Description>
        </em:targetApplication>

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

It's not a solution for all versions, a better solution (*.* in maxVersion) is already described here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16019&p=35202#p35202
...but manual editing is still a temporary workaround - you must edit install.rdf every time you install a new FDM version.

In FF24 right click and select "Download with Free Download Manager" can't use in video & audio filetype such as mp4, mkv, mp3, etc. But I can use Download all with FDM to download all video & audioo in FF24.

Kindly note that I have upgraded to latest version i.e. build 1359... But it is crashing a lot.. I hv sent several error reports also..

What I understand is that when internet connectivity is not there/broken then it straight away throws error (I might be wrong in this assumption but this what I could figure out)..

can you pls look into this and advs..

i'm trying this on win 7 pro, 64 bit.. it throws error while downloading torrents..

if u need any more details then let me know..

BTW, thanks for providing magnet support, long awaited feature, finally I can remove utorrent !!
