Avira Antivirus and FDM

Postby cuckoo » Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:18 pm

Hello,
I use the Avira Antivir Edition: "Free Antivirus" (latest release)
and I want, that Free Antivirus automatically scans the downloaded file,
after the download is complete with FDM.

Currently, with this parameter: /GUIMODE=1 /PATH=%file%,
Free Antivirus scans only the registry.

Which parameters must I enter in FDM ?

TIA cuckoo

Do you use the avscan.exe File?

sorry, should I enter the following exactly as it is into the box under "Perform virus check":

C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avscan.exe /GUIMODE=1 /PATH=%file%
(one space between exe and /GUIMODE, right?)

That's what I've done but it failed. I got an input error stating that "name is invilid, please check it".) :?

or should I just entered the complete path for avscan.exe and then enter the parameter somewhere else (like the "Arguments" box).

Thanks.

I have found out that the only thing you need to do to have AntiVir scan just the downloaded file and nothing else is set the option in AntiVir under Guard Scan to "Scan when reading and writing".

** ALSO ** Disable "Perform virus check" in the Free Download Manager options.

When the download manager writes the file to the download directory AntiVir will scan just that file and only pop up a dialog if it finds something to warn you about.

Test this by having Free Download Manager download the antivirus test file from http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm .

Using the settings I just recommended AntiVir Guard should pop up a warning dialog as soon as the download is finished.

Download "eicar.com" from the above webpage.

Try that and see for yourself.

Avira scanning commands

This is the string I use for the best anti virus scanning results:

/CFG="C:\filescan.avp"/GUIMODE=2 /PATH=%file%

You will need to download this file and set it to 'read only':
http://www.avira.com/documents/utils/tools/filescan.avp
