Can't save...

Postby evi|one » Wed Nov 10, 2004 5:08 pm

Hello,

I run FDM 1.1 build 228 under Windows 2k, as limited user.

From time to time I get a messagebox that says "Can't save the list of sites". The caption of the messagebox is "Error", and it has two buttons: Retry and Cancel. It's very annoying. What does it try to save? Where? Why? Why can't it simply save in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data...

FDM is otherwise a GREAT product. Congratulations

BUG in FDM

I have the same problem with version FDM 1.5.

I used filemon (www.sysinternals.com) to find the cause of the problem:

The "Application Data" folder of my user profile is not stored locally on the computer but redirected to a network share (by the the use of a GPO in Active Directory).

The problem is caused by the fact that the folder "Free Download Manager" does not exist there when the program want to save his files.
I created the folder manually under "Application Data" on the network share, and now it works fine, no more error messages.

It opens the Windows Explorer and click in Tools/Options of folder. I will choose the border Ways of exhibition and take away mark the box To use simple sharing of archive (recommended). It goes until the folder of the FDM and selects all the archives with the extension .sav, click with the right button I will choose the border security, it adds the limited user and it gives permissions to modify and to record the selected archives. It comes back toward the Windows Explorer and it again marks the simple sharing for security. You must have administrator privileges to execute this procedure.
