Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
However, every time I restart Windows, FDM tells me that the Fx monitoring is disabled, when, in fact, it is enabled, as evidenced by the fact that FDM launches on downloads in Fx Nightly profiles.
Odd.

Please try considering the following guideline:
1. Please find the folder in the directory:
c:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\
or
c:\Program Files (x86)\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\
2. Оpen the "install.rdf" file, find the following section:
<em:targetApplication> <!-- Firefox -->
<Description>
<em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>24.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
</em:targetApplication>
3. Replace the "24.*" version number by "26.*"
Your feedbacks are welcome!
This did not work, but the editing the install.rdf in the folder (Windows XP):
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\
did work. In Windows 7 and 8 i guess the folder is:
c:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\
I found this by looking in the folder
c:\Documents and Settings\*My user name*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*some random name*\extensions\
and there is a file named
fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org
which contains the path where the actual extension is located.
Hope this helps
Nikola
What Nikola said worked for me. I know it's not the proper way to resolve the issue but it did work. Can the site admins PLEASE, if you point us to look at the 'FAQs', which I still cannot find, PLEASE just hyperlink the word FAQ to the actual page with the information you're talking about. The FDM is a mess and it's impossible to find the information you claim is there. The only FAQs I found on the site are only relevant to posting messages on the forum.
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Hi All,
I am having a different problem with the plug in. I had been using the "Download with Free Download Manager" option in the context menu.
Since about the beginning of the month, suddenly when I click on "Download with Free Download Manager", instead of bringing up the FDM "Add Download" dialog the video runs within the browser (e.g. it executes it) as if I had just clicked the link instead of asking it to download with FDM. I noticed that this occurs on all browsers.
I had no idea what was going on, so I decided to upgrade to the latest Firefox and latest FDM. Before I did that I went into my Firefox plug in and removed it, I had noticed that it was version 1.6. I upgraded Firefox to the latest version (25) and then updated FDM to the latest version 3.9.3 build 1360. I got the plug in installed after reading through the forums re: enabling monitoring on it. While looking at my setup data I noticed that a new extension folder was installed on my machine for v1.6 and it looks like it installed on 10/30. (I do not recall accepting that?) That date is around when this glitch started happening.
After re-installing everything it still executes the video instead of launching the FDM "Add Download" dialog. I also checked and that the other links work as expected "Download all with Free Download Manager" & "Download with Free Download Manager"
Note: intermittently, it will not load the video but will bring up the "Add Download" dialog box.
any help appreciated. thanks

Hi Joe,
I have the same problem here since I had to upgrade FDM to use it with FF 25: context menu "Download with FDM" starts download in browser instead of bringing the add download dialog. I've just tried to re-install the plug in properly, but still the same problem. Do you have a solution for it?
Regards,
Jürgen

Download with FDM does that for me on certain videos, but rarely - most of the time it has been pretty reliable in the last two weeks. I rarely ever used it before that, so my experience is limited, but I've ha what you are describing happen only like twice, out of maybe 50-60 videos.

1) That is not hte most current version of hte plugin, that is actually old.
2) Being in the public folder, that should not have any bearing on you, unles your firefox install is customized, or something else is customized...as listed in the info above as well as the post I made on the method reported by Usher, those locations are correct for default installs on Vista / 7 / 8

From the FAQ, go to this topic specifically: viewtopic.php?p=36150#p36150
I have linked the FAQ in my sig in case you cannot easily find it / the link above is broken / any other reason.
With the new Fx 28.0a1 out (Nightly aka Minefield brew) you {may} need to follow the procedure that I linked above in order to get the plugin working correctly with Nightly. I just went through it and it is working again.
Thanks again, Usher, for that detailed writeup.

No, the clean install method mentioned above did NOT work.

It worked for me perfectly fine, other than FDM asking me on every boot to enable it in Fx.

Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
This has been said elsewhere, but I'll reiterate my issue:
Due to a recent Firefox version number update (to 25), the option in the right-click context menu of the browser, "Download with Free Download Manager" does not work correctly when it comes to video files. I am using Windows 7 64-bit, though I can use x86, 32-bit and 64-bit programs, so my Firefox is not necessarily 64-bit. It's whatever version that is given by default on their main download page.
For example, when I use a RSS page on blip.tv such as this: http://nostalgiacritic.blip.tv/rss
(Warning, Firefox has built in RSS capabilities other browsers may or may not have, so that link may only display properly in Firefox.)
Normally, it would fetch the file url of whatever video format I chose and bring up FDM's menu for downloading just like any other file. Now, it acts if I just left-clicked on said file, where it will go to whatever in-browser video player, such as VLC or Blip's site player, that it deems needed to play the file. Might I mention again that in the past, with previous versions of FF, this always worked as I intended. Now I have to go back to using DownThemAll in order for this to function as desired.
One described method of fixing this was the clean install method linked on this very page by johnlgalt, which I've done twice with no success. I have also tried editing the install.rdf file's line of "<em:maxVersion>26.*</em:maxVersion>", where the number 26 had previously been 25, with no success.
I even changed the plugin's version number in that file as well, from "1.6.0" to "1.7.0" just in case, with no luck. Yet, john says that 1.6.0 is NOT the current version of the plugin anyway. If that's not, then what is? I can't find that information anywhere, and when I try to install the latest build I could find, which seems to be 3.9.3 build 1360, I still come up with 1.6.0 as the latest plugin version. In all of the folders I had to access for doing the clean install, and while doing a complete of my hard drive, I could not find a folder location close to C:\Users\All Users\Free Download Manager\Firefox\Extensions\1.6.0 or any specific folder called 1.6.0 or any version number. I do recall finding this once before, but it doesn't seem to matter because that's the wrong version anyway, and when I did find the location, that WAS the latest version shown, and this was after the clean install. I have also done the required cache/registry cleans with CCleaner and Auslogics, as well as restarted my computer, when required, and even when not.
So what, do I just have to wait for a new version of FDM to be released and hope it fixes the bug?

For part 1, I'm not talking about using the "Download with FDM" option that would come up over Youtube videos already in play or something like that. It doesn't have to be specifically for video downloads. I'm talking about the issue that I now see has gone unresolved multiple times here: http://freedownloadmanager.org/board/vi ... 7&start=30
It's the same problem. Say I was trying to download an .exe file I would later install. I could left-click on it, where it would make me go through some type of prompts or other pages before being able to download it, or, right-click on it and choose "Download with FDM" and bring up FDM's menu to download it immediately, because FDM doesn't always come up automatically on certain sites.
For part 2, I get a page with the RSS logo where it says the title for the video, and multiple formats that I can download the video in. I know that isn't the best example, because it only comes up correctly in Firefox, but that's not really important. If I come across a URL such as this: http://blip.tv/file/get/NostalgiaCritic ... ale477.mp4
Normally, I'm supposed to be able to right click and such as mentioned above, and NOT have to open it up in a video player and go through the flash video download dialogs. What happens is:
Right click > Download with FDM > Video Opens in the browser like I'm not even using FDM
I'd say, I should've mentioned it in the thread I linked to above, but every time it gets mentioned, it gets overshadowed by some similar issue, and ignored. This method WORKED in previous versions of FDM and Firefox, and now it does not.
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
All context menu (right click) options "Download ... with Free Download Manager” are designed for regular download using direct links. They may NOT work properly if links are redirected (for example in file hosting services using CAPTCHA) or if downloads are available in some other way (f.e. using plugins like Silverlight or FlashPlayer).
You may have problems with download even if you just click a link. There may be add-on conflict in your browser, there may be also new features or changed default settings in a new version of your browser. For example:
- You cannot have FlashGot (download helper) and FDM (download manager) extensions both turned on.
- Some ad blocking or internet security (antivirus) add-ons may block pop-up windows or redirections for download.
- Firefox lately introduced click-to-play feature for all plugins and many sites using Java have stopped work properly. The same problem is reported for many video streaming sites, no matter what method they use for video delivering (FlashPlayer, Silverlight, HTML5). Click-to-play feature requires user interaction (additional mouse click) so it DOES NOT work properly with right-click context menu or other automation supported by add-ons - it may be also incompatible with Flashblock or ad blocking add-ons. Click-to-play feature comes with option to whitelist some sites and is is the right way recommended by Mozilla developers.
FDM developers try to follow changes introduced in browsers, but some of them are not clearly described in changelogs and some are difficult to diagnose without detail user reports. That why it is so important to follow the rules described in "How to report a bug or a problem" topic. Reporting versions for browser, FDM and its add-on is a must and testing Firefox with all unneeded add-ons turned off is a standard diagnostic method recommended by Mozilla developers.

Given that all the plugins and addons I had on before and after the Firefox 25.0 update have had no changes, and all the people having the same problems in this thread http://freedownloadmanager.org/board/vi ... 7&start=30
I'm certain the problem lies in Firefox itself. You make it sound like I'm complaining without providing any significant information, although I mentioned the browser version in the beginning of my first post. I, do not know what else to tell you that would actually help in this regard.
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Few days ago I turn on FDM automatic update, today when I open FF (ver.22) suddenly FDM plugin works, the plugin upgraded to version 1.6.0 (last updated 2 Des 2013) from version 1.5.8 that won't work for very long time. So might this can be alternative way to get the plugin works with FF other than edited fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org as we've know.
My FDM version is 3.9.2 build 1303 from few days ago, and dont updated like the plugin. FDM and FF both are restarted. Maybe cause in FDM automatic update I only check when update available.
The problem is when I click the download link they never download with FDM but with browser both direct and not. When choose to Download with Free Download Manager only direct link can be with. Monitoring option is FF checked.
Here are my test link:
Direct link http://files.freedownloadmanager.org/fdminst.exe 7,4 MB
Dynamic link http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/ ... leId=81819 27,7
Looks like some people have to post same problem, so I just wait for next update. And sorry I'm not English.
Last I try too with IE and FDM both are works with direct and dynamic link above, I see the Add-on and the FDM was 11 mar 2013 date file.
