New appearance in 1.45 BETA and more... :(

Postby SUKER » Thu Nov 18, 2004 4:02 pm

New large icons in FDM are nasty :( Please restore old small icons!!! Or make possible: to make this new icons - smaller and possibility to customize toolbar!
Also, about 2 month I sent many feedback with useful small improvements and bugs - have no response :( And now we have new version with global, but not so important additions (like audio/video preview). While old important bugs and incompleteness are still remains :x
I think first we need stable D.M. with most standard (for D.M) futures, and only then we need "kitchen combine"...
If such development (in POP direction) will go on, I think I will migrate to another D.M... :(

Oui quelle deception !
I actually agree with suker.
Big and nasty icons,I was searching an option to minimise these icons...
But never found it :(

Old icons was (IMHO) better. At least they was smaller and had their own style. Maybe author add possibility to choose icon sets between small (old) and big (new) icons?

That's a good idea, please give us this option!

I have no porblem with the beta version, but the support of the FDM Developer team here in that forum is not the best. Ok it's a freeware but I know other good freeware with better support and more infos for the users.

I'm only a German translator and like that program really because it has great features and a big potential but little more infos and faster response of the FDM Developer team would be better.

Also I think it's not good to bundle other additional software with a freeware - like the 'NAV...' search bar feature - the such a software get a touch of ad-ware...

But that'S only my 2 cents ;-)

Voting for smaller icons too. The old ones were really much better...

Adware and hijacker NavExcel now included in installer...

Postby Guest » Fri Nov 19, 2004 7:47 pm

With the latest version this great program saldy comes with this ugly thing :

NavExcel and NavHelper :
- Description : A search hijacker implemented as an IE Browser Helper Object. Address bar searches, attempts to connect to unknown servers, and all 404 page-not-found errors (even those whose sites provide custom error pages) are redirected to webservicehost.com. It changes browser settings and it's almost impossible to change them back, shows commercial adverts, hides from the user, stays resident in background.

- Security issues : It can download and execute arbitrary code from its controlling server http://www.navexcel.com (as an update feature).

- Stability problems : Versions up to at least 2.0.4 of NavExcel (the latest at the time of writing) are incompatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2, and will cause both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer (the main Window user interface) to crash every time they are started. Such a system will have to be rescued from Safe Mode or by using System Restore.
(sources, with removal methods and complete threat description : http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/NavExcel.html, http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-navhelper.html, http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest ... =453074928)

So, Alex, please remove that, because your program is really excellent! Why destroy your work by making it the host of dangerous software, and make one of the too many programs that doesn't respect its users?

I don't mind with the lerge icons. But NavExcell is definitely a bad idea.

An ideal example of FREEWARE is Avant Browser.

I agree that Nav Excel is a bad idea, but no reason to panic, it can be un-installed and to remove all the entries from the registry just use Lavasoft Ad Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy and you wont have any trace of it left in the system.

removing spy/ad ware is nothing new/hard for us who spend most of our nights with Process Explorer, VMware WorkStation, Firewall, etc.

BUT NAVEXCEL IS MORE HARMFUL TO THE IMAGE OF FDM THAN OF OUR SYSTEMS.

Even you don't need to remove NavExcel, just uncheck the option while you install FDM!

and is talking home...

Postby Devil-R » Sun Nov 21, 2004 9:41 am

yes the toolbar sucks completely and FDM is talking home...
www.softdeluxe.com port 80 .... :-( which is in the end the main page of fdm, but i don't want it so please let it be!
it is the autoupdate funktion i think... and it's not possible to shut it off...

Is there not a real opensource download manager around?
FDM, flashget, netants, ... --> they have all a comparable look... do anybody know why? o_O

Greetings,
