Same problem with portable version

Fixed in build 1252. Thanks for reports. Please re-download.

Guessing the link is same
re downloaded
same problem exists
just was curious so tried all older versions
all portable versions work fine with each other(data profile) except 3.9.3 b 1251/52
did you change anything which caused this regression?
love to use both stable & rc but using this beta corrupts everything
please fix this[tip- try all portable version from 3 and gradually goto this
(ie copy data profile from 3 ,3.6 etc to this beta) then go back-words after creating & using the profile of this beta ie 3.9.1 then 3.8]

Also
user-agent is
ie5(can you update it with ie9/10?)
opera3.6(can you update it with 12?)
also please add maxthon

RTMP protocol support?
Is there no menu Tab for MMS/RTSP download management?
And also magnet links support for bit torrent plugin.

Some related problem has been fixed in 1252 build.
But the problem you experience is caused by incompatibility with previous versions.
3.9.1 uses changed format of service file with list of downloads. Previous versions can't load it.
But I do not see any reason you need to use both versions.
And it's not the first time FDM changes the format of its service files.

trying to help by testing the beta !!
"But I do not see any reason you need to use both versions"
3.8 is stable(trust with imp data) 3.9.1 is beta(with bugs can't trust with imp files plus bug reports is needed right?)
That's why

Hey there,

3.9.1 (1252) is not working for me. It crashes at startup.
I see a window with an error message, but it shows up
for like 0.1 secs and disappears. No entry in the event viewer. Nada.
3.9 works like a charme.

Specs:

Windows 7 64 Ultimate
Firefox 12
Eset Nod 32 Antivirus 5 (doesn't show anything)

So long,

Did you use previous (1251 build) before?
Can you please send me files from your %appdata%\Free Download Manager folder? Notice that these files may contain your saved passwords.
And, do you have fdm1252.dmp file in your %tmp% folder? If yes, please send it to me also.

Hi,

no I didn't use 1251 before. Came directly from 3.9.
Send you a link with the files per pm.
And unfortunately there is no fdm1252.dmp.

So long,

Alex wrote:Dear users! We would like you to test this one yet another beta version of FDM.
It seems it should work even better than the 3.8 final version we released recently.
But it introduces an opportunity to download RTSP/MMS video.

We would like our users to test it and tell us about the result.
3.9.1 BETA build 1252. (May 4, 2012)
Changes:
[+] FDM saves list of downloads and other service data only when it's required.
[-] List of downloads could not be saved in some cases (bug of 1250th build).

Using the Portable version
switching between beta & stable corrupts everything
FF portable + FDM portable

[+] FDM saves list of downloads and other service data only when it's required.
So auto save every xx mins will not work? :(
Please let it work love it(save's power by lowering hdd startups)

Norton found Virus Suspicious.Cloud.7.EP in c:\program files (x86)\free download manager\flvsniff.dll. If you scan the complete folder before(!) Norton delete the dll everthing is OK

It works. But it will not write any data to hdd if it's not required (i.e. there are no changes since last save).

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly. Notebook? It may be not a good idea to disable this feature (reduces hdd safety).

I mean when a large file is downloading
i use cache files say 2 gb
let the hdd go in power save mode(power save setting = turn off hdd after 3 mins)
wake & write data when 2 gb is done again let hdd go in power save mode
saving precious power

"So auto save every xx mins will not work?"

I think it will wake hdd more
can you enlighten me? if i am wrong?

please add the new features other have asked , they will make fdm better IMHO
& FDM should follow rapid release too please !!

Thankyou

what alex meant was when a download is added or removed it is saved instantly
(not waking up the hdd)

@Alex firstly thankyou +1 to adding the new features requested and keeping the old ones(dont fix if not broken)
can you please increase the cache file to be max=unlimited
have a 10gb/sec connection & want the cache manually to be 10-20gb or unlimited(users choice) to prevent unnecessary writes to my SSD , right now its only set in mb (on my connection 1gb file takes 2sec so disk never goes into power save mode)

It's not saved instantly. List of downloads is saved every 3 minutes (by default) and at the exit. But FDM will not save it (thus write any data to hdd) if there are no changes since the last save (i.e. no downloads has been added and nothing was downloaded).

+1 to adding new features & polishing old ones
cache data before writing to disk right now is max in mb
sometime i need 5 Mb & some times in need 50 Gb to be cached depending on connections speed
so can the maximum value be user choice please that is MB/GB/TB as his/her requirement
as some people have slow connections & some have very high so they can choose accordingly

thankyou
