Thanks a lot for FDM, it is really good and useful. I'd love to see a global manual speed limiter (so I could instantly select a manual download limit speed, instead of fiddling with heavy/medium/light) and a "Maximum number of connections per file" option. Also, a more ample selection in the optimization master for faster DSL connections, including a "custom" option.

I've been am heavily using 3.8 RC1 and I'm very happy with it - works just fine.
Runs on a 64bit W7 Home Premium machine, Firefox, integrated with Flashgot Add On

Would you consider the following enhancement?

Currently you can sort by clicking on the column header. Once I changed the default sort there doesn't seem to be a way to get it back to the last/current sort.

This can be annoying when you consider the following use case:
1. Add 10 files to the download list
2. Manually move 4 files to a different position in the list (using Shift-U/Shift-D)
3. Now, when you click on the column header "File Name" (or any other column header) the list is resorted and I cannot find a way to get it back to the sort order I had created after step 2.

Ideas for how to change it:
- Add option to preserve and return to last (manual) sort order
- Add option to disable sorting by clicking on the column header

Hi guys! thank you for this great software, it is truly the best.
But sometimes, especially with the torrent download, I notice that my downloads come back, and it's really annoying when you see 7000 MB torrent file, downloaded to 85% back to 18% for no reason.
I have noticed that when FDM rereading the file, it retrieves his status ... the question would be is it possible to force the re-reading the file before downloading?

I'm afraid it won't be fixed until FDM use its service files (*.sav). They are limited in size and if they are too big, FDM cannot save full status of last added torrents. To fix it, usually it is enough to remove all finished downloads from the download list and clear all the history logs, but if you have many active torrent downloads divided into a very big number of pieces, it sometimes won't help.
In most cases you don't lose your torrent, the only loss is ratio and time spent to recalculate hashes (see explanation below).

It is not quite like that, because FDM can do more than one action at a time. When you restarting FDM, it starts to check all active downloads.
For torrents it is done in a (more or less) following order:
1. Connect to tracker and check torrent status. If tracker status is OK, show green arrow.
2. Check torrent status in FDM. If it is missing/broken, recalulate hashes for all pieces to determine which pieces are completely finished and which are to be downloaded.
3. Hash recalulating may take several minutes for huge torrents. In this time FDM may start separate thread to work with already checked pieces - share complete pieces for upload and download missing pieces.

As you can see, status shown in FDM may be misleading when recalculating hashes:
- FDM may show green arrow before downloading is really started.
- FDM may show download percent for checked torrent pieces not for all the torrent pieces. That way percent shown is less than real.

Today I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. When downloading a file using FDM, Firefox becomes rather sluggish and slow to respond. KIS most likely is working in the background scanning all open connections and network traffic when FDM is working. So I placed FDM in the trusted zone and told it not to scan incoming network traffic. Firefox is still a bit slow after doing this. Does anyone know how to alleviate the slowdown?

Thanks!

And you don't know how to use Options menu in FDM, I suppose? Run Settings, go to Downloads | Network and change traffic parameters as you need. You can also mark "Decrease traffic usage on browser activity" option. Then you can go to Downloads | New download, press "Advanced" button and set global traffic limit on "Connection" tab.
Just do some tests on your own, please.

Actually I do know how to use the Options menu. I've tweaked them before and reduced the number of connections.

Anyways, I figured out the problems by changing some settings in KIS 2012. Now I'm downloading at top speeds while being able to navigate web pages and light multitasking.

So, when is the new version coming out. It looks pretty stable looking at the number of issues reported since the last update.

I haven't read all 26 pages, so may be, someone wrote about that:

1: The download history should be kept for 60 days here, but old entries aren't deleted. The oldest one is about 120 days old now. I manually deleted the oldest ones from time to time, seems to me, that automatic cleaning does not work at all.

2: A behaviour what is very annoying with this beta, but worked until 3.5 (I've never used 3.7): Some websites have fixed download links, e.g. http://www.piriform.com/. FDM asks then, whether the download should be continued or newly started. In the older versions of FDM in those cases I manually changed the filename and FDM saved it with that name or FDM did it, when I activated the according option – all was fine. Now, with 3.8, in every case the old name of the entry in download history will be used for the file name, though it is still possible to change the name in the download dialogue.

OS is WinXP SP3.

Hi,

thanks for your freeware, i use it everyday and i really love it ^_^
But, i'v got a problem. I was using FlaghGet to integrate FDM into Firefox because i thought FDM's firefox add on wasn't working. But from what i see, you fixed that (it's suppose to work untill Firefox 8, i'm using Firefox 7.0.1), but it still doesn't work for me :s
I deleted the add-on, installed the last version of FDM, picked Firefox, rebooted Firefox, but the addon still doesn't work. Maybe i missed something, i don't know, i hope someone could help me.

I'v got another question, maybe it has already been asked, but do you plan to make FDM compatible with Google Chrome ?

how does FDM figure out that a file is already downloaded?
i mean, on the GraphicAll website there will be available the newest builds of different software projects. when i download a build and i forget to delete its entry from the list of finished downloads, than i try to download a newer build of the previosly download, FDM say the download does already exist - and if i want to restart the old existing download again...
but in reallity the new build of that software has an other filename... so it is not possible, that a restart download will give me the new correct and wanted softwate build.

so every time i want to download a new buils of the same project, i have to be sure, that the previous download of it is not present in the download list in FDM. (automatically or manually)

e.g.:
