If you dont like Linux with Wine, then try Vista! :) Just kidding! I vote also for a native Linux version. And is not so dificult to make a port of the software from Windows to Linux and OSX. Are a lot of SDK who can make the job.

- QT
- WxWidgets

Better make a Linux version than a Vista one!

A Linux Version of FDM

It would be great if you could develop a Linux version of FDM. Linux has many great programs and Download Managers but I feel comfortable with FDM and would like a Linux port.

I know your program is not OpenSource but you could compile it a create Debian, Red Hat and SuSe packages. You don't need to open your code for making a Linux Port.

A Linux Version of FDM

I would love to see a Linux version as well!

d4x is my #2 download manager but doesn't allow having special settings for certain URLs. If if does I can't figure it out.

I currently run FDM through wine but it runs poorly at best. Works one day and not the next. A native linux binary would be awesome.

Most download managers don't do well with proxies (FDM and d4x sure do though). While FDM and d4x are the only ones that support downloads that require authentication, well reasonably anyway.

Yes please

Yep, this would make a excellent idea! It may be possible due to FDM GPL'ing their code, making it easier to do this. If they converted FDM to use QT4 (from Trollotech), this would be possible. My favourite program KDE is coming to windows thanks to QT4 for it's KDE 4 release.

What did you set to get FDM to run in wine? Even with latest it hangs when trying to add a download.

FDM is now open source software released under GNU GPL. :D
So anybody (a developer in preference  ) can "transpose" it to Linux.

Actually I'm using Ubuntu (with Gnome desktop), so I'd prefer a GTK+ interface.

Hello everybody.

I think FDM was written in Delphi. For this reason they don't have to port the code to Trolltechs QT. Delphi for Linux is named Kylix and should be the easiest way to get a Linux- Version.

I have tried all but nothing as fast as FDM. I have tried kget, D4x but nothin up to mark. To get huge download, i restart to windows for fdm. Using wine with FDM was futile attempt.

Well... or simply modify the code so it works on linux and anyone can compile it. Other people will gladly create packages for any architecture and distro.
