FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the list of downloads
FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the list of downloads
Hello guys
I've found out that FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the file downloads.sav and downloads.his.sav while closing.
After upgrage from 3.9.4 build 1485 to 3.9.5 build 1530 FDM starts fine and I can see all my download history.
When I do a download and close the application I get the following error on the next statt of FDM:
"Fatal error occured while loading the list of downloads".
I can also see that it increases the size of the file downloads.sav from 971 kB to 1564 kB. I couln't regard that error with the old version 3.9.4 build 1485.
Please prepare a fix for it.
Thanks.
Kind regards
Andreas

Re: FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the list of downloads
You should read topics about FDM 3.9.5 more carefully. There is a change in FDM and in its *.sav format - now it uses strings encoded in Unicode UTF-16 instead of older ANSI strings. Any character in UTF-16 is at least two byte long while ANSI characters are only one byte long.
The service files should be converted by FDM installer or at first use at least, but conversion may fail if sav files are large - there are old reports about problems with sav files larger than 1 MB. You should NOT just copy sav files from FDM 3.9.4 to already installed FDM 3.9.5.
Could you describe your actions more detaily, step-by-step, please? It will help to fix possible conversion problems.

Re: FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the list of downloads
Hi Alex
How can I send you the requested files? I can also send you both as before and as after conversion if that helps. But I miss the possibility to attache files in this form: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/support.htm
The steps I did:
Pre-condition: FDM 3.9.4 build 1485 successfully installed and working fine
1. Install FDM 3.9.5 build 1530
2. Start FDM -> starts without error message
3. Check the download history -> everything is fine
4. Quit FDM
5. Start FDM again -> starts without error message
6. Redownload a file
7. Quit FDM -> Now the file size of downloads.sav changes
8. Start FDM again -> the described error message appears
My PC has Windows 7 64bit SP1 and I'm using two logins, one as admin and one as user. I install every application always when logged in as admin but I'm using the PC usually as user.
Kind regards,
Andreas

I am getting the same error with the same steps and pre-condition. Even updating to version 3.9.5 build 1537 didn't help.
I am on Win 8.1 64-bit.
files:
downloads.sav 4.68MB
downloads.his.sav 1.20MB
Been using FDM for long time, hence the big files.
Please help.

Hello, calyoung!
Please send us the .sav files via email:

Re: FDM 3.9.5 build 1530 scrambles the list of downloads
All the SAV files have been sent to support.

Hello,
You sav files got damaged due to the bug of previous version of FDM and thus can't be loaded anymore.
I've made the special build for you which can load and fix your sav files.
Please follow these steps:
1. Download and install FDM build 1538.
2. Launch it and modify the list of downloads somehow (create a new download or remove existing one).
3. Shutdown FDM and uninstall it. Now your SAV files must be fixed.
4. Install the current release version (1537).

Thank you very much for the fix! That solved the problem.
It is only when I can't use FDM that I realize how much I rely on it. LOL.

If updating from FDM 3.9.3 1360 to FDM 3.9.7 1638 are these format problems confined to FDM 3.9.5 builds or could you still get problem with 3.5 MB *.sav files?
