ggbhtg wrote:Usher wrote:All context menu (right click) options "Download ... with Free Download Manager” are designed for regular download using direct links. They may NOT work properly if links are redirected (for example in file hosting services using CAPTCHA) or if downloads are available in some other way (f.e. using plugins like Silverlight or FlashPlayer).
You may have problems with download even if you just click a link. There may be add-on conflict in your browser, there may be also new features or changed default settings in a new version of your browser. For example:
- You cannot have FlashGot (download helper) and FDM (download manager) extensions both turned on.
- Some ad blocking or internet security (antivirus) add-ons may block pop-up windows or redirections for download.
- Firefox lately introduced click-to-play feature for all plugins and many sites using Java have stopped work properly. The same problem is reported for many video streaming sites, no matter what method they use for video delivering (FlashPlayer, Silverlight, HTML5). Click-to-play feature requires user interaction (additional mouse click) so it DOES NOT work properly with right-click context menu or other automation supported by add-ons - it may be also incompatible with Flashblock or ad blocking add-ons. Click-to-play feature comes with option to whitelist some sites and is is the right way recommended by Mozilla developers.
FDM developers try to follow changes introduced in browsers, but some of them are not clearly described in changelogs and some are difficult to diagnose without detail user reports. That why it is so important to follow the rules described in "How to report a bug or a problem" topic. Reporting versions for browser, FDM and its add-on is a must and testing Firefox with all unneeded add-ons turned off is a standard diagnostic method recommended by Mozilla developers.
We are all volunteers here and if you don't want to help us, we can't help you - that's how free software developing works.
Given that all the plugins and addons I had on before and after the Firefox 25.0 update have had no changes, and all the people having the same problems in this thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16047&start=30
I'm certain the problem lies in Firefox itself. You make it sound like I'm complaining without providing any significant information, although I mentioned the browser version in the beginning of my first post. I, do not know what else to tell you that would actually help in this regard.
For one thing, an actual website where this is occurring. For another, the exact steps that you used to produce the problem.
You have to bear with the dev team and the people helping in the forums, because currently there are well over 14 billion websites on the internet today, and there is no way for the developer team nor the helpers here in the forums to have visited every single one - and thus trying to trouble shoot an issue such as the one you are experiencing is impossible without detailed information.
Also, Usher makes a very valid point - if the link does nto directly connect you to a known file type download (IOW, if the link, as you hover over it, shows something like "/p=" at the end instead of something like ".doc" or ".exe" or ".zip"), then it is probably making use of a redirection, a technique used by many websites to prevent people from sharing hotlinks to their files directly - allowing them to 1) garner advertisement dollars, 2) control the dissemination of their files, or even 3) prevent excess bandwidth usage, or 4) any combination of these thee items thereof. FDM is not always able to catch redirection links - a notable case is from CodePlex, whereby the redirection leave FDM with either no filename or else a very nonsensical filename, whereas bypassing FDM presents the browser with the appropriate filename for downloading.

Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Well, I'm sorry I don't have more info to give on that. That's the closest to an actual site I know of for an example. I don't know why when Usher used this link: http://nostalgiacritic.blip.tv/rss it went straight to the normal version of that Blip site rather than the RSS specific page I'm talking about. I've been using Firefox for at least 3 years, and whenever I add "/rss" to the url of their channels, it loads listings of recently uploaded videos along with multiple formats in which the video can be downloaded, which I'd then use "Download With FDM" on, correctly. This only stopped working after I updated to FF 25.
The only other time I use the function in that particular manner is with the Firefox add-on BYTubeD, which will load a separate page with a link mainly to be used by a download manager (it even says so, in a way, on the page it brings up). Although you could do a normal "Right Click > Save As" in this case, I would not, since FDM has options that increase download speed over that. I were to left-click on the link produced by that add-on, it would try to load the link as if it were trying to direct me somewhere else, which is not impeding in this case because the link directs to bringing up a download prompt, FDM, being my default downloader, comes up instead of Firefox's save Open/Save/Etc prompt for downloads.
I elaborate on this, because, before Firefox 25, I never bothered to try left-clicking on those links, because I used DownThemAll, and later, FDM. When I used FDM in the past, I could use "Right-Click, Download with FDM" and it would catch those links without causing any further prompts or page loads to arise, instead immediately bringing up FDM in order to download said link/file. As in, if I were to do this while I didn't even have an active internet connection, it would still bring up the proper FDM download menu, because all FDM was doing is grabbing the url on its own, as if I had drag-and-dropped the link over to FDM, or Copy-Pasted the link, then selected "Add Download" in FDM.
NOW what happens, when I try to use "Download with FDM" in the BYTubeD case, is that, like with the Blip example I tried to convey, it completely ignores my usage of that context menu option, instead, acting like I just left-clicked on it. I KNOW that is what's happening, because in this case, since I never had a reason to left-click these links for months, if ever, I immediately noticed Firefox trying to load up something on that as if I left-clicked on the link, something that never happened when I used "Download with FDM", in any version of BYTubeD or FDM I've had. I know, that Firefox did change, with that version 25 update.
I suppose that is technically another insignificant example due to BYTubeD originating as an add-on and not a normal, static page, but at least that's a recreatable situation with it being a widely available Firefox add-on for this Firefox specific problem.
That was my only other example....until I just checked to see if this would happen on another site while typing this very post, on the video site Dailymotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/us
I right click on the title of any of those videos, and it brings up the context menu along with the "Download with FDM" option. Normally, if you just click any random link you can scroll over on a page like that, like the logo of a website meant to send you to the home page (like this site's logo does, and Dailymotion does), you'd only get a link that'll grab an HTML file, at best. If I choose that option, it sends me over to a the video's page to load in their video player, like I just left-clicked on it. Here's an even better example, on that same page! See those "buttons" on that page near the top, saying Movies, Gaming, Music, Funny, etc? Now, you'd think to just left-click on those and nothing else, which will cause a section of those type of videos to display on that same screen.....but for some reason, you can also right-click on those same "buttons", and the "Download with FDM" option is there.....guess what happens. You choose "Download with FDM", and that causes the list to drop down, like you just left-clicked on it.
That's got to be the best example for this type of thing, because there's no way THAT isn't a bug. Maybe you guys will decide all of this was an accidental feature in the first place, and say that I'll have to just to adapt to the new minor inconvenience of having to copy-past/drag-drop those Blip links over to FDM, but I won't, because DownThemAll has context menu options as well, that still work in these situations.
For as long as I've gone on talking about this, you may have already decided back in my last posts that I'm just another random anonymous complainer on the internet, ranting at the closest source of the issue....but no. I've been using this program for a year, and until now, it nearly fit all my downloader needs, and with it options that can go over the network speed limit placed on browsers and other managers, it surpasses even that. This issue puts a damper on all that, and so I checked this forum to see that it has been mentioned in one way or another, like on this thread, or this other thread, http://freedownloadmanager.org/board/vi ... 7&start=45 only for it to be ignored for another issue, or not followed up on, because the person who complained, like always on support forums, or tech support in general doesn't know well enough that the first thing we're gonna ask is "what version of the program are you using?", or "what browser are you using?". Well I've done PC troubleshooting, so I know better.
Again, "I am using Windows 7 64-bit, though I can use x86, 32-bit and 64-bit programs, so my Firefox is not necessarily 64-bit. It's whatever version that is given by default on their main download page." I will go on to safely assume that I am using 32-bit, because that's what I always go for (and since when was there ever a 64-bit Firefox). I'm using FF 26 now because that's what it auto-updated to, but the issue started with FF 25. I won't take a stab at saying this could be a scripting error, because experience with HTML5 or Javascript goes as far as being able to look at a webpage and say "yep, that's DEFINITELY using SOME type of script". If I could go that far, I'd be trying to fix the problem myself.

This is the level of detail that I was looking for.
Now, a couple of things:
- I'm running the same system, and I see the same effects you are seeing in your first link. Workaround - use the context menu item Copy Link Location instead of the Download with FDM item (you'll also need to make sure that in FDM Setting, under Monitoringin the Monitor section (top) you have a check mark placed beside Clipboard. The, when you copy the URL, FDM should load automatically to download the file (verified on the first site you posted).
- The post above shows a possible fix for your method of downloading using FDM directly. However, when I tried it your method still fails, while my method of copying the URL still works.

Noted, although it does get in the way when I copy over images, which I often do.
Heck, you don't even need that page as a test now, or the Dailymotion page. Try it on this very page. Go up to the header of this page ("Free Download Manager FireFox plugin" in the largest text), right-click, and click Download with FDM, and it also happens.

What nightly build - 29 (aurora), 30 (central)? Have you tried to start on a clean Firefox user profile without any other add-on?parkd1 wrote:The plugin is crashing Fire Fox nightly build for 2-11-14 on start. 2-10-14 and earlier works fine.

Yes I have. I am using nightly build 30.0a1. Was working yesterday and updated to the new version for today and that is when it crashed FF on start up. disable evething and did one by one and it was FDM plugin that would crash it. They must have changed something in todays build.
