Hi Guys,

Love the software package. THe best thing ever invented.

I use windows and linux and would like to ask whether you will be compiling a version of FDM for linux at any stage. If so when would that be.

Many thanks
Dalibor

actually FDM works quite well if you have wine on. Just download the installer and install fdm onto wine. Also make sure u have mfc42 (or something like that) installed using winetricks and you are good to go.
do the following :

Code: Select all

wget http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks

then run

Code: Select all

chmod u+x winetricks
./winetricks mfc42

Then run the installer and install fdm within your linux. You should be up and running.

Linux and Windows user, tho I only use Chrome on Linux.

Using WINE beats the purpose of running Linux in this case (and things run more sluggish for me when using WINE)

Also: I can't install Chrome with WINE because it says it can't connect to Google update.

I was one of the first people, if not THE first, who asked for NoScript when Chrome came out.. the few I've seen after all this time are insufficient. No Google mod dared to reply on Google forums. They ofcourse have Google Ads, which I threw in their face.

This was my reason to stick with Firefox on Windows.
Now that I want to try it out on Linux I'm disappointed once again. I dont like the commercials/ads but at least on Linux I dont have to worry much about getting any other stuff like viruses. Not one decent filegrabber (like downloadhelper which detects media) exists and the next best thing, a downloadmanager is made for Windows now.

Dont wanna whine but as I said.. kinda disappointed. I've read FDM is now Open Source. Well if that doesn't warrant a debian linux release then I don't know what does. Until it reaches Linuxland, I'm gonna keep hoping that Mozilla will implement the multiple processes in Firefox (1 process per tab system)

just my 2 cents

Good News for Linux Users & other OSs supported by WINE

HI

I've given FDM RC 3.5 a try under ( WINE Software- The program that is used to run MS Windows applications under many other operating systems like LINUX, MAC, Free BSD & more).

Image

Unlike the old version of FDM (3.0) , it does not become frozen .
& no need to delete all the files that fdm put in (documents & sittings folder ) after the second or the third time u work on it after installation.

But some crashes happen from time to time (When U add a link to download in FDM - not always !!!)

Those are good news by all means !!!

please notify other people about tihis

---------------------------------------
for the people who want to know how to run FDM under wine :
please visit this page:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=15083
-----------------------------------------------
ٍscreenshot from my Computer ( UBUNTU OS ):

Image

--------------------------------------------
for browser-integration U can add Flashgot for firefox so it can detect FDM

after installing the add-on put this link:

Code: Select all

about:config

After that a new message will show up!

Image

Click on : I'll be careful I promise

then a list of choices will show up in the screen

Image

go & look for

Code: Select all

  flashgot.useWine

like here!!

Image

& change its value into true ( from false into true )

Congratulations!!!!

It's important to change one of the default options of FDM

that to click on sittings from options menu

then go downloads/essential:
& make sure that :"" Automatically remove completed downloads from list "" is active!

or the program will become frozen again & again !

Does it mean that I can follow suggestions from this topic to install FDM in WINE and it will work? What VC runtime is needed now? Can I use 64-bit WINE?

Will FDM makers make FDM also for linux systems?
