Thx.

I only get the Firefox Built-in Download manager option and NOT FDM, so it's not monitoring Downloads.

Edit: I am running Firefox 60.2 ESR (x64) with FDM 3.9.7 (build 1638) and Firefox Addon 3.0.6 (which is the latest I get from Update)

So it simply doesn't work? Have you checked that the extension is enabled and that there are no disabled settings?

Of course ;)

The extension is enabled in Firefox (version 3.06) and all options in the APP are set right, have tried it many times. even uninstalled and reinstalled 3-4 times. And I (as said before) also tried with a NEW profile, same issue there.

This happened after the upgrade to 60.2 ESR, before that everything was working right.

I also checked the extension has the right name

fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.xpi Size: 277.485 (location Firefox Profile \extensions)

And it's not the (2) version ;)

Edit: As a workaround I have installed another download extension that starts and then I copy the Download url and in FDM I have set "Clipboard Monitoring" and then FDM jumps in (and I cancel the other extension). Not a perfect solution but it works for now till I can find a solution for this.

Oke thx.

If you need anymore info let me know !

I will be checking in daily :wink:

Edit: I did another test because I suspected that the issue had to do with FDM installed on C and my Firefox Profiles are on D (because C:\ is a SSD)

So I created a new Firefox Profile under: c:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

And activated Monitoring in FDM. Add-on got immediately updated to version 3.06, started a download but ..... (wait for it) ONLY the Firefox download manager showed and NOT FDM. :(

Again if you need more info, please let me know

Here the FDM relevant lines from PREFS.js (maybe it helps)

Code: Select all

user_pref("extensions.fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.sdk.baseURI", "resource://fdm_ffext-at-freedownloadmanager-dot-org/");
user_pref("extensions.fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.sdk.domain", "fdm_ffext-at-freedownloadmanager-dot-org");
user_pref("extensions.fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.sdk.load.reason", "startup");
user_pref("extensions.fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.sdk.rootURI", "file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Free%20Download%20Manager/Firefox/Extension/");
user_pref("extensions.fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.sdk.version", "2.2.3");

and this one is a piece of: user_pref("extensions.webextensions.uuids",

\"fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org\":\"2e8b7cf3-41a2-4fb6-a422-bbebae726ff0\"

Well, it was NOT a clean install. You have still some remnants of old FDM extension ver.2.2.3 (settings and possibly files). They may be present also in FDM folders and in Windows registry. See FDM FAQ - Firefox troubleshooting,
You can also re-read last ten (or more) pages from PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here! topic.

Good catch, that was from my Daily Firefox Profile and not from the Empty Profile. (Yes I have tried also with Empty Profile, you can see that a couple posts UP) as I prefer to get it working in that Daily profile.

No remnants in FDM folders as (after Uninstall of FDM) I removed the relevant folders in %Programfiles(x86)% and in Users\Roaming. So that was really blank (oke not the registry)

I've been through that last topic you linked, you are mentioning there extension version 3.11 but the latest I get is 3.06 (which I get from update). If I look at the (search for) add-ons page from Firefox (link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /versions/) and look at old versions the oldest version is 3.12 and I have tried but it's the ffm_2 extension version.

Anywhere I can get that 3.11 extension ??? And why was it withdrawn (downloading random pictures ???)

Thx for the help really appreciated.

edit: I am going to install FDM 3 on my NUC (it was never installed on there) and see if the FDM works to grab downloads. Please note: I am testing FDM in 2 different ways:

1- Click a Download link on a Webpage (in that thread I saw lots of problems with that as well)
2- Have a Bookmark which links to a ZIP file and has this form (http://www.nameofsite/files/test.zip)

on both occasions FDM fails to download it.

Oke I'm back ;)

Installed it on my NUC.

Never installed FDM on there, no need as I use it as a Media Player.

Firefox version same as on Desktop (60.2 ESR)

Installed FDM, gave me the offer to Monitor Downloads, so Accepted.
Installer, installed the Extension (version 3.03). (No other Add-ons installed)
(Declined Bittorent and community Options)
Quit Firefox
Started Firefox again, check for updates to add-ons, got updated to 3.06
Reboot the NUC (just in case)
Started Firefox (FDM was in the tray)
Checked if Monitoring was active in the APP
Started a Download and ...... NO FDM showed and download was done by the Internal FF download manager.

Now back to you guys :D

Ps: The option "Don't monitor for files smaller ..." is NOT checked, in both Desktop and NUC.

Update:

Found the 3.11 extension.

What I did was download Free-Download-Manager-5.1.36-Build-7160-(32-bit).exe from an Oldversion site.

Installed this under Sandboxie (not to mess with my installation).

Looked in the Sandbox folder and there was extension.xpi 282.762 03/05/2018.

Opened it, looked at manifest.json and under version it said 3.0.11

Copied it to the "real drive" started Firefox, in the address bar I pasted the extension location and filename and restarted firefox and presto 3.0.11 was active. The filename under Firefox Profile \extension is fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org.xpi 282.762.

So did a Download test, and unfortunately NOTHING. (nah not nothing expected result was of course FDM intercepting the downloading but unfortunately the Firefox Download manager did that)

Running out of options and things to try here :(

There are some more tests, if you have enough time to play:
- FDM 3.9.7 with Firefox 60.1.0 ESR and earlier versions down to 60.0;
- FDM 3.9.7 with Firefox 60.2.0 ESR 32-bit;
- FDM 3.9.7 with newest Firefox 62.0, both 32- and 64-bit;
- FDM 3.9.7 with newest Firefox 63 beta (63.0b4 now), both 32- and 64-bit.

I can't help you more for now…

Hi,

I'm using FDM 3.9.7 with Firefox 62.0.2 with extension ver 3.0.27 installed via the Firefox add-on page. Downloads are being captured by Firefox instead of FDM and browser context menu is also not available. Please advise on what I need to do to get it working again.

Thank you.

Triple3,

the extension ver 3.0.27 is not for version 3.9.7 but version 5.x. The name of the extension will be something like
fdm_ffext2@freedownloadmanager.org.xpi (Notice the 2 in the name ? And the extensions with the 2 in the name are for version 5.x)

The latest version (which you can get via the Update Add-ons in Firefox itself) of the extension for Firefox is 3.0.6 which is for 3.9.7 (there are other versions around but not readily available and NO idea if the work (version 3.0.11 doesn't work, I tested that already))

I am also waiting for a fix (I am using FF 60.2.1 ESR and since the upgrade to Firefox 60 ESR FDM isn't working for me either (see earlier in this thread)

Hello iammike,

Thanks for replying. I got it resolved. Using the long way.

I uninstalled Firefox and deleted every folder that has the word Mozilla and also removed FDM,
Then reinstalled Firefox followed by FDM. Upon completing FDM installation I was asked if I wanted to install an extension for Firefox, clicked on yes and got extension version 3.0.3

Since it's working now, I am not going to complain that the extension is not v 3.0.6. :D
