Anyone else problems with corrupted downloads?

Postby Guest » Mon Oct 18, 2004 9:53 am

Hi everyone!

First of all FDM is a great application! However I'm having serious problems with downloading files when multiple sections are used to "burst" a download. The downloaded file gets corrupted - this happens always, no exceptions.

If I download the file only permitting a single connection (i.e., using one section during download) it downloads ok - although not as fast.

I've two different computers, one laptop and one desktop which behaves the same. They both run Windows XP Pro SP2.

Anyone got any ideas or similar problems?

BR,
Anders

I'm having the same problems. I've tryed downloading mp3's and they sound with random noise. And when downloading instalation executables they won't install 'cause of the file corruption. I't a great manager, I hope you get this fixed soon.

Same problem. Some executable (instalation files) download correctly, but when I try to run them they crash (in fact, sometimes the instalation process begin but finally crashes). If I dowload them without FDM, they work fine. For me it's the biggest problem with FDM, so I hope this will be fixed soon.

XP SP2; IE

Have no idea how to solve the problem, but I suspect identifying what's going on would be more clear if the authors knew the OS/browser.
I've not had any problems with corrupted downloads, myself.

Same problem. XP SP2, FIrefox PR 1.0 FDM 1.1
Flashget doesn't corrupt my downloads... so until a new version shows up, I'm going to stick to it... I't a shame since I like FDM

Hope this gets fixed fast!

Dear users,
Please make sure your FDM's build number is 228.
Re-download FDM if it is less.

First, I have FDM 1.1 Build 228, along with XP SP2 and Opera 7.54.
Today, I tried downloading Windows Media Player 10 with FDM, using 2 sections.
After downloading, the installer told me that the file was corrupt while it was extracting the files.
I tried downloading again with FreshDownload 7.16. The download and installation were problem free.
The following direct download link was the same for both Download Managers,
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 0Setup.exe

Since I used the latest build of FDM, the problem with corrupted downloads still needs to be fixed.

Higgy: Something you might want to try is installing The Proxomitron, so that you can see the log of header exchanges between FDM and the remote server.

I've been having the same problem you have, and it was due to my ISP installing a NetCache proxy device that is causing FDM to insert bits of headers into files that it resumes, making them corrupt. And yes, I will be switching from them over this.

Dekaritae,
Thanks for the reply. :)
AFAICT, this problem only occurs when using 2 or more sections.
I'm on dial-up and my connect speed is always a mere 28.8K.
Since there's not enough of a difference for me, I've decided to only use 1 section for each download from now on.
For those who can take advantage of multiple connections, this problem should be fixed ASAP.
