An abomination

Postby awgiedawgie » Wed Oct 26, 2016 11:19 am

I wholeheartedly agree with the other posts I've seen from users who HATE the new UI. The dumbed down interface has removed the vast majority of the functionality that was present in Ver. 3. With the new UI, and without browser context menu options, it is not possible to Batch Download, Download All, Download Selected, or Download Video. At least in Ver. 3 you could manually add a URL for a page to download a video. I know the browser context menu items are on the to-do list, but they're not there now, and that is a major issue. The only option I can find in the new version to manually add anything other than a simple URL is to add a torrent file, which is worthless, since I trust torrents about as far as I can comfortably spit out a rat.

With the limitations that this UI has imposed, this is no longer a full download manager. It's a compact, lite, abbreviated, aborted, chopped off, half working abomination that isn't fit even for a smart phone, let alone for a full computer. I don't know what possessed FDM to perform such a horrid overhaul on the software, unlessed they're taking lessons from Microsoft, and removing functionality because they assume their users aren't smart enough to use it. But whatever the reason, I'm going back to Version 3 until they get this monstrosity fixed.

Where can I download v 5.1.18 since the latest version is so annoying? Keep showing up every time I start my PC.

1. GUI based problem when Shut Down/Sleep/Hibernate After Download is selected. Picture link http://prnt.sc/ctb299
2. Speed Gets Capped at 360 kbps, while I get around 400 kbps for the same file under same conditions in IDM.

--- Suggestions ---

1. There should be a option in Settings to select individual folders for different file type.

Using FDM nearly after 3-4 months. It seems much more polished then before, thanks for your hard work FDM Dev team. Would really appreciate if you guys could do a regular basis (monthly) update for FDM.
Dear User!
What is you internet connection speed? Please send us the log of the download?

I found found out that using the latest update causes conflict with Acura, just a guess. Sometime at startup a pop up shows up saying server busy, possibly a program causes issues with avira process. My guess is the fdm process causes avira to not function well.

After using FDM to download the file and close all IE windows, I get the following situation:
http://rgho.st/8gqt4LsR4
If I turn off integration with IE, then it isn't reproduced.

1. It does not depend on the URL of downloaded files.
2. fdm.exe - 5.1.19.5166
3. Win10 x64 Pro (10.0.14393)

I close all IE windows, but in memory there is the process iexplore.exe which actively uses the processor.

It seems to me that in a previous version of FDM (before 5.1.19.5166) it wasn't observed.

Cheers to the new FDM. 8) 8)
I would want more customization for downloading YouTube videos, especially Large Playlists (upto 100 videos).
Also the option of choosing the file format/quality should be induced, maybe by using a python shell command or a savefromnet extension.
Please also improve firefox plugin... it often fails on firefox startup.
