Your report is still incomplete - you haven't reported your OS version, browser version and FlashGot version.

Guest wrote:With 3.9.2 it was possible to download something (by clicking the download link or whatever) and FDM poped up as first and if I clicked "cancel" in FDM then the standard firefox download dialog (or "open with" dialog) poped up and I was able to choose another downloader because of the flashgot plugin.
Now that is not possible anymore...unfortunately.
It's not the way you should use FDM with FlashGot so you cannot expect it will work for ever.
Mozilla developers have changed downloader embedded in new Firefox versions and FDM plugin has been changed to work better with these Firefox versions. However, there is a workaround described in _this_ topic here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16047&start=30#p37968 that allows to keep previous FDM plugin behaviour. Do read really carefully before posting, please.

Sorry, about that.

OS: Win7 64Bit
Browser: Firefox 26.0 32Bit
FlashGot: 1.5.5.96 (also tested with 1.5.5.91rc1)

It doesn't matter if I should or not should...it worked for years without any problem until now (FDM-Plugin 1.6.0.1 / FDM 3.9.3.1360). But you are right, things are changing every time because of...something.

Ok, the FDM Dev-Team will have their reasons for changing this behavior but i can not see any improvement...on the contrary, we need workarounds (patches) to make it work again.

However, the workaround only brings back the "old" context menu entries in Firefox because the "new" ones doesn't work for me (nothing happens if I click them) but it doesn't fix my main issue.

Mainly I was using FlashGot for the possibility to switch between different download manager if FDM could not find/track the file which I want to download.
Now I only can choose between FDM (which pops up 1st...but that is ok...like before with the old 1.5.5.7? FDM plugin) and after canceling the FDM dialog -> the Firefox downloader (and that is not so "practical").

Maybe the FDM-Dev-Team could implement a similar program switcher into the "open with" firefox (download) dialog?
That would be great! :)

Hi got a new issue with latest FDM download, I uninstalled it and reloaded it and allowed firefox to install the plugin.

FDM detects a new download upon clicking a link but it reads this error in the log :

11:59:26 PM 2/9/2014 Starting download...
11:59:26 PM 2/9/2014 Can't connect to the server
11:59:26 PM 2/9/2014 Pause 5 sec.
11:59:31 PM 2/9/2014 Starting download...
11:59:31 PM 2/9/2014 Can't connect to the server
11:59:31 PM 2/9/2014 Pause 5 sec.
11:59:36 PM 2/9/2014 Starting download...
11:59:36 PM 2/9/2014 Can't connect to the server
11:59:36 PM 2/9/2014 Pause 5 sec.

Can't connect to the server? also says Stopped in system tray error. Any fix to this? I went through all the settings to default FDE even looked for a FDE remover software, I think defaulting the settings fully will work.

Any ideas ?

1. General description of a problem.
I uninstalled FDM since it stopped working yesterday, clicking on download link (any) could be fdm download or ccleaner results in red icon and download does not start, other downloaders and default firefox work fine
2. Optional, but is required sometimes. What steps will reproduce the problem?
Not sure I installed Comodo firewall, and this happen FDM has full access and is set to allowed, even I tried to leave firewall off or allow all and still does not work
3. Optional. What do you expect from FDM instead?
to download as normal
4. What OS you use, browser (including their versions).
Firefox 26 latest build
5. What is the version of FDM.
3.9.3 via homepage, tried lite edition same issue
6. Optional, but is required sometimes. Additional specific information.
here is the detailed log:

11:46:51 AM 2/10/2014 Starting download...
11:46:51 AM 2/10/2014 GET /ccsetup410.exe HTTP/1.1
Referer: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

11:48:26 AM 2/10/2014 Can't connect to the server
11:48:26 AM 2/10/2014 Stopped

Feels like a setting is incorrect, cant seem to find a reset or default all option which may fix it (already tried default setting for download + torrent) tried multiple uninstall attempts and new attempts, reg cleaning etc.

You don't need to copy reporting rules, just describe the problem as the rules suggest. Software (browser, FDM, OS, firewall) version numbers and download site/link are always helpful.

Guest wrote:I uninstalled FDM since it stopped working yesterday, clicking on download link (any) could be fdm download or ccleaner results in red icon and download does not start, other downloaders and default firefox work fine
Before uninstalling FDM you should close your browser and turn off browser monitoring in FDM.

Guest wrote:Not sure I installed Comodo firewall, and this happen FDM has full access and is set to allowed, even I tried to leave firewall off or allow all and still does not work
Usually "leaving firewall" means closing its GUI part without turning off firewall services. You should change firewall rules or uninstall it completely. Don't use "block by default" option at least. Some third-party firewalls may co-operate with the system firewall so you can also check Windows firewall rules.

Nothing interesting here, but...

...I suspect CCleaner may have broken some registry entries. It is very common source of unexpected problems.

thanks for getting back to me, yeah issue seemed to happen around same time as comodo was installed will try uninstalling it fully and see if it is somehow blocking it...seems strange other downloaders and normal firefox download manager accepts it.

I uninstalled fdm from firefox addons and closed it when installing it..

ccleaner was run after it stopped working, could be the firewall will let you know if I find out!

Is there no reset to default option on fdm ?

uninstalled comodo firewall and FDM works back again like a charm, now to figure out why comodo is blocking FMD despite it saying allow application full access to net

thanks

Edit: I reset comodo settings to default and now it works :)

FireFox 27 with FDM

Postby StormJumper » Mon Feb 10, 2014 7:41 pm

I noticed when if installed FF27 on my desktop that FDM stopped working but on my laptop FF27 worked fine? Note sure but if anyone is reading this and experiencing this problem. I would advise before updating to FF27 uninstall completely FDM and any saves then install FF27 and then reinstall FDM and what I discovered was the plugin was now 1.6.0.1 not 1.6.0 as my previous version showed. So I am guess something got updated during this reinstalling of the plugin but after that installed and reboot. All my FDM and FF27 is working well together now. So if FDM isn't working best to completely uninstall it and reinstall FF27 then reinstall and reboot and then customize the settings again and that will fix the broken links catches that FDM does.

There were no complaints about FDM incompabilities with Firefox 27 beta, so developers silently updated installer, bumped compability level and Firefox plugin version month ago. There were no changes introduced in FDM this year, so you hadn't to completely uninstall FDM before installing updated installer.

You should just more carefully read older messages before posting: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16625&p=38131#p38131

I did say it didn't work correctly on my desktop but the laptop worked fine when installing FF27 over the older FF26. But I just found it more on the safe side to uninstall FDM and reinstalling it to avoid pitfalls should I run into them. IMO

Firefox 29b1. FDM extensions 1.6.0.1

When using "Download with Free Download Manager" to download something,FDM popup a warning that FDM plugin is disabled by Firefox, click OK to open Firefox Addon page to enable the plugin. But the FDM extensions is enabled already. And in settings "Download" -> "Monitoring" ,monitoring Firefox will be disabled for no reason.

Hope for any fixes?

It's FF clean install? Or updated some previous version?

My O/S WIN 7 ULTIMATE X64. FDM 3.9.3 Build 1360
This is curious as my FF 29b1 and FDM 1.6.0.1 are working fine (as they did when FF was Aurora 29) AFTER I edited "C:\ProgramData\Free Download Manager\Firefox\Extensions\1.6.0.1\install.rdf" max version to 30.* <em:maxVersion>30.*</em:maxVersion>

FDM & FF work for me, both when FF was updated and when I did a full install.

[Please note Aurora firefox-30.0a2 will NOT work with FDM Plugin 1.6.0.1 (even with the "Max ver change") as something in FF has changed between versions FF29 and FF30).

The Only real issue I ENCOUNTER with FDM is that FDM hates my Bank's link which should link to a pdf bank statement file but FDM downloads a (Zero Bytes) file named GetStatment instead (FDM properties show a path of "https://****my bank****/Transactions/StatementArchive/GetStatement".

If I ignore FDM option to download then both FF and IE 11's built-in downloaders have NO problem getting to the .pdf file. FF asks if i wish to open and view pdf or download file (I forget if IE 11 says the same, but think it does).
This issue for me has been around a long time but I have not reported before now it because obviously being a secure on-line banking site I cannot give specific links or access for FDM Developers to investigate. I cannot work out why FDM falls over on finding the link when neither FF or IE do but I am no programmer (I assume by banks is not using a conventional link (but conventional enough for FF & IE downloaders) as download links using FDM nearly always work for me (except I on rare occasions I get a small .php file downloaded instead of expected file on a site I usually do not download from. FDM seems to have issues with certain types of indirect links (sorry if not correct jargon). I am NOT griping or running down FDM, merely reporting observations based on MY download use with FDM, which I have used as my 1st choice for years as I love FDM.

Hope all this helps
