PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
I don't have time for this bickering about ways and means to make FDM compatible with higher versions of FF. I can just stop using FDM after about five years of flawless performance. Wouldn't it be more sensible to put up a single 'sticky' major thread about fixing FF compatibility problems? And how are the FDM developers negotiating with Mozilla people on this? Be transparent, obscurantism is a bore. The rude TOPIC CLOSED msg from Wozniak is pointless. Just put a link to a list of compatibility procedures per FF version numbers. Do you want me to pay for a working version? how much - $10 bucks...$20?? Where do I send the money?

Problem: FDM extension does not work with 64-bit Firefox. (FDM is a v32-bit program designed to work only with 32-bit browsers.)
Workaround: Use the Flashgot extension instead.

1. Currently FDM does not support 64bit versions of browsers.
2. Make sure you use the latest version of FDM.
3. If it's still not working with Firefox, try this: shutdown Firefox, turn off monitoring of Firefox in FDM options, start Firefox again, shutdown it again, turn on monitoring of Firefox. After that it should work.
3.9.1249 (the latest stable version currently) and 3.9.1 BETA versions of FDM supports Firefox up to 14.x version at the present time.

1249 is stable only if you don't try to download torrents. Every time I tried, it crashed. And the feature that lets me send the core dump via email does not work. The email bounces back because it was sent to an invalid address.

Amen to that. Anything to end this endless cycle of having FDM disabled in every FF update and having to search the forum here for kludges. FDM is the best download manager around -- when it works.

I agree with you: " FDM is the best download manager around -- when it works"
And that's true also:
Either you do a task full or you do not it never; even if the task is for free.

And, unfortunately, FDM plugin 1.5.7.4 is incompatible with Firefox 15...
Re: PLEASE Just put up sticky link for FF incompatibility fi
I love FDM, and have been using it for several years. I like it enough that each time a new version of Firefox has come out, I've waited to install it until FDM compatibility has been worked out. But with FF releases coming at such an accelerated pace, this issue is wearing me down.
I recognize that users have little right to complain about a free product. (Though like others, I would be willing to pay for this one if it resulted in timely compatibility updates.) So my question to other users: is there another download manager out there--free or not--that approaches the capabilities of FDM, but doesn't have recurring compatibility problems?

Re: PLEASE Just put up sticky link for FF incompatibility fi
For those who want to continue using FDM but are frustrated with the continuing issue of compatibility of the plug-in with new versions of Firefox (see my post immediately above), I have discovered what seems to be a good solution.
The Firefox plug-in FlashGot works with many external downloaders, including FFM. It is highly reviewed, and easy to use. I installed it and selected FFM as my preferred download program, and it seems to work flawlessly in Firefox 15. It calls up FFM whenever you click on a download link.
You can find information and a link to dowload FlashGot here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /flashgot/

Re: PLEASE Just put up sticky link for FF incompatibility fi
Sorry for the typo errors in my post above, but I can't edit it. Wherever you see "FFM", it should say "FDM".

actually it works with FF15 if you just edit the file called install.rdf and change the max version number from 14 to 15. this doesn't mean it will work with all future versions of FF, but at least its still working with 15
I also posted this on the release page, but my comment wasn't approved and hasn't appeared there. lets see if this goes through, i see no reason why they should block useful info!
Re: PLEASE Just put up sticky link for FF incompatibility fi
The file to edit is here (on Win7 32 bit):
C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension
install.rdf
Look for -
<em:maxVersion>14.*.*</em:maxVersion>
Change the 14 to 15 (or 16 like i did) and save. The restart Firefox and your plugin is back!
