FDM 3.9.7
Re: FDM 3.9.7
So you uninstalled Firefox also ?? Also deleted your Firefox Profile ??
May I ask which Firefox version you are using now ??
Re: Extension 3.06 : if you go to Add-ons in Firefox and Click update it should give you extension 3.06
Edit: Oke I have tried it.
Used my NUC and NOT my working PC
- uninstalled Firefox and REMOVED all my Firefox Profiles (only 1 )
- uninstalled FDM
- Removed all Folders with the name Firefox and Freedownload Manager and Freedownload Manager.org
- Scanned all through the Registry (for current user and Admin User) and also removed everything regarding FF and FDM
- Rebooted the NUC once more
- Reinstalled a Fresh Downloaded Copy Firefox 60.2.1 ESR.
- Rebooted the NUC
- Installed a Fresh download copy of FDM
- Enabled Monitoring (Extension 3.03 got installed)
- Stopped Firefox and FDM
- Start Firefox and tried to download a file.
- What happened was that Firefox intercepted the download and NOT FDM
- Oke could be because of an outdated extension, so went to Add-ons check for updates and 3.06 got installed
- Started Firefox again and same result so Firefox intercepted the download.

I am using Quantum 62.0.2 x64,
I did not clean up my registry but I also deleted all the Firefox folders in the Local and Roaming directory,
Re: Extension 3.06 : if you go to Add-ons in Firefox and Click update it should give you extension 3.06
This did not work for me though, the extension still stays at 3.0.3 saying no updates found. Even when I try with firewall disabled.

What downloads did you try to catch?iammike wrote:- Start Firefox and tried to download a file.

WebExtensions (also for other download managers) cannot catch all downloads because of incomplete API in Firefox. It's already described in one of FDM FAQ - Firefox troubleshooting postings.

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Thx Usher,
but the test link has always been the same (please see EARLIER POSTS, but didn't post the full link there)
Which is a download of the Portable Version of Sumo (Software Management (freeware))
I also use the Eicar zip file link (Will not post that) to test the .CMD I have in FDM to test my AV Scanner.
If FDM can't grab that, then I must look for another download manager (Just joking here )
Edit: I have been using the Sumo and the EICAR link since I started using FDM, and just with the upgrade to version 60 of FF it stopped working)

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Zip files were also reported to be grabbed by Firefox with active FDM WebExtension. See for example:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16047&start=495#p45136
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16047&start=555#p45287
It probably may be changed depending on:
- configuration of Folder options in Windows;
- configuration of software for archive support installed in the system;
- Options for Applications set in Firefox.
If any changes don't help (which is very possible), download zip and pdf files using context menu, as it's described in the FDM FAQ linked earlier.

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Thx Usher, appreciated as always
But Why does the extension I use to grab downloads doesn't have any problems grabbing the links ??? And why doesn't it also don't work on my NUC (Only VLC and Firefox installed and NO tweaks installed, just use it to watch Videos from my NAS).
If it would work on my NUC and NOT on my PC then oke, but it doesn't work on both of them. When I have some time, I will install a VM with Windows 10 and see what it does, but I suspect the same.
Link to that extension here:
Oke I understand it's a difficult situation to trouble shoot but thx for the Support anyway.
But I will stop bothering you guys and just use the other Extension to grab downloads and feed that link via Copy to FDM. (That fortunately still works)
Good luck with your feature versions and I only hope version 6 will be as good as version 3.
Edit: You can remove my account !

Re: FDM 3.9.7
It's been also explained, that different download helpers/managers may use different tweaks to workaround features missing in WebExtension API. I'm not a developer so I can't tell you why the FDM devs don't follow solutions working in other extensions.iammike wrote:But Why does the extension I use to grab downloads doesn't have any problems grabbing the links ???
Have you tested third party "Download with Freee Download Manager" extension?iammike wrote:Link to that extension here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search
It's been updated lately and currently it may work better than FDM extension 3.0.6/3.0.11:

You can find some explanations about methods used to catch download in comments on the extension homepage:

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Yeah I tried that extension, it needs a helper program to grab the Download links ! Not much of a fan of that.
I will keep using the extension I am using, it's a bit buggy but at least it works.
I am only surprised that before the upgrade to version 60 of FF (I was using ESR) FDM worked and after the upgrade it stopped.
Hopefully next week I can get a VM up and running to see if on a Brand New install of Windows 10, FF 60.2.1 ESR and FDM, FDM grabs downloads.

Re: FDM 3.9.7
Every WebExtension MUST use native client to work with external apps - it's by design. What is more, it can't be some generic client - it MUST be registered with UUID.iammike wrote:Yeah I tried that extension, it needs a helper program to grab the Download links ! Not much of a fan of that.
Mozilla devs stopped to warn about small API changes/incompatibilites long time ago. You must dig in bug reports or blog entries to find out what's going on. It's on of reasons that so many extensions are abandoned.iammike wrote:I am only surprised that before the upgrade to version 60 of FF (I was using ESR) FDM worked and after the upgrade it stopped.

Question please.
The extension "Download with ... " needs to have an executable installed (separate installation) to grab the links (some faults with that as well (for example not having different paths for x86 or x64 but oke).
The Extension I have installed "Multi-threaded ..." doesn't install anything extra.
So my question is, what Native Client does that Extension use ?
Re: FDM 3.9.7
"Multithreaded Download Manager" seems to be extension coded in JS to add more features to embedded (internal) Firefox downloader.iammike wrote:The Extension I have installed "Multi-threaded ..." doesn't install anything extra.

Native client is required to work with EXTERNAL apps (to pass data outside the browser). See edit in my previous message.

FDM 3.9.7 cuses some problem in FF Quantum
I use FDM 3.9.7 and extension in firefox flawlessly since a while and i just installed (on a new computer) Firefox 63 (64 bits) and FDM 3.9.7 and firefox extension causes some issues on several websites (errors on submitting some forms, errors with some downloads...). Disabling extension solves issues.
Re: FDM 3.9.7
@Alessio.71
Thanks for the info.
There is no newer Firefox extension for FDM 3.9.7. The latest one is 3.0.11 and it seems to work OK with Firefox up to 57 or maybe 60esr. If you still want to use FDM 3.9.7, you can stay with Firefox 60esr and wait a year for better solution.

On FF 60esr doesn't work as well. For example, managing a Sonicwall Firewall you don't see any Rule if you keep the FDM plugin enabled.
Re: FDM 3.9.7
Such problems existed with FDM extension 3.0.3, there should be no such problems with version 3.0.6 or 3.0.11.Alessio71 wrote:On FF 60esr doesn't work as well. For example, managing a Sonicwall Firewall you don't see any Rule if you keep the FDM plugin enabled.
Have you tried to add the site to"Skip list" in FDM?
Note also that you don't need to restart Firefox now, when turning off and on again FDM extension. You can pin up the Add-ons tab and easy switch to it to turn off FDM extension if some site (f.e. file hosting) doesn't like it.
