Can we get a "What's new?" pertaining to features in releases. I've tried the beta quite a few times going back to when it was alpha, but there's certain features that are missing that bother me too much to use it. Mainly, the UI shouldn't pop up every time, progress info is missing, setting your own connections, etc.. A lot of stuff that's been mentioned which is supposedly being developed. I wait 3-4 months in between testing releases, but have been disappointed each time that these basic features of FDM are still MIA. At least a "What's new?" would save me the trouble.

Hi,
Every time we release a new build, we publish the What's new list on our forum FDM 5.1 Beta. There you can find the information on what new features and options have been added in the new release.

Bookmarked, thanks Clive. It appears you've been releasing updates pretty frequently. 5.1 has a bunch of cool features not included in the old faithful version, so I'm looking forward to switching over. Any ballpark figure on when downloads will be able to start in the in the small progress info widget, instead of opening the UI?

As "Check for updates" is a option in the GUI menu, another option to see "What's new" or "Changelog" could be nicer.
Don't know how much "Check for updates" is used, but I use it frequently and I guess this will become streamline/straightforward feature for everyone, thus including "Changelog" will become essential/helpful eventually.
"Changelog" can be a separate a menu item, or a sub-item on "About FDM" menu.

Thanks :)

I'd like to request an added feature which would allow to stop a torrent after the download has completed set as a default setting for all torrents.

Right now, version 5.1 allows this feature on a per torrent basis which has to be manually unchecked. Perhaps it would be nice to put an option to do this under Settings->BitTorrent so it can be set by default for all torrents.

It saves time for some of us instead of having to manually select it on a per torrent basis.

I am unhappy that the setup file names do not contain version and build.
I am also and still unhappy about the fact that with the new beta version all previous ones are gone. This is a feature some users requested here and there are lots of cost free webspace in internet.

How shall users compare an old build to the latest one if user gets aware that something went wrong in latest one but it is not possible to install the old version again, try it once more, confirm bug and report it? Also some features got lost in newer builds but one cannot look up and/or confirm as only latest build is downloadable.

My lessons learnt are that I do not use "Check for updates" again but download manually (and give file name version and build) to protect my running system in case of a buggy latest build or change in features, GUI or usability that is counter-productive.

I just installed Free Download Manager v5.1.12.3865 and...
1. It doesn't see Chrome and provided me a link to install it. I already have Chrome installed. v3.9.7 saw Chrome OK.
2. It doesn't work at all in Firefox or IE, but it works for Edge.
3. It leaves a big windows open instead of the small, neat download window that v3.9.7 had and a small transparent viewer.

I am sorry to say that it is a big step backwards. :(

You do realise when software becomes beta status that the majority of features are in place and most bugs fixed.

The package size is huge, that is a real concern since the same can mean the program is resource hungry since the other download managers out there are almost all under 10MB in size and FDM jumped to 30+ which is nearly equal to that of a small fully fetched browser or other app.

Since the program is in beta and there are a lot of unfinished options left Hopefully the extra bit of code can be removed to keep the program light in the upcoming updates i hope.

And some one please put the download progress window in the thread as well. :)

Postby D. Yessa » Wed Jun 01, 2016 4:26 pm

Version 5.1.13 released

- Catch links without confirmation ("Silent monitoring")
- FDM will check if it's your default torrent client (you can easily disable that)
- Bugfixes

Have you deleted FDM 3.9.7 before installing FDM 5.1.?
Try to delete the previous version and install the new one.
